Ticks are aggressive creatures found in the Mistlands. Ticks look like giant versions of their namesakes. Their only attack is to latch onto their target and deal constant damage.

Strategy[]

A shield can block or parry ticks, allowing them to be disposed of quickly. Because ticks move very quickly and jump frequently when pursuing a target, ranged attacks are usually ineffective once they have spotted a player; however, idle ticks move very slowly and infrequently, and thus ranged attacks are highly effective against them in this state (usually at a distance to keep from being noticed by them). In either case, 0-star ticks have relatively low health - much more than a Deathsquito, but still low enough that they usually die in one hit from almost any Plains-tier weapon or better.

1-star and 2-star ticks have increased health and may require multiple hits to kill, unlike the common tick. 2-star ticks especially are capable of killing unprepared players in under one second; players wearing light armor (such as the Eitr-weave Set) are especially vulnerable to them.

Since ticks are often encountered in groups, area-of-effect attacks are highly useful for eliminating them simultaneously. Some area-of-effect weapons (such as atgeirs, e.g. the Blackmetal atgeir) are less useful due to being less able to hit targets at different altitudes, thus likely missing jumping ticks and being generally less useful in the uneven terrain found throughout the Mistlands. Other weapons (such as two-handed clubs like the Demolisher or magic weapons like the Staff of embers) work well in all terrain; the staff of embers in particular is highly useful due to being a ranged area-of-effect attack, capable of defeating multiple ticks at once from afar.

If they latch onto a player, some options include:

  • Use an area-effect weapon, such as the atgeir or two-handed club, to damage and knockback ticks.
  • A roll will remove ticks attached to the player.
  • Swinging a weapon while turning around allows the weapon to hit ticks on the character's back.
  • Using an Ooze bomb or Bile bomb, their persisting AoE can kill ticks easily.
  • The damage from an attached tick can still be blocked as if they were attacks, and a successful parry will result in the tick being detached.
