Attacks and abilities[]

For strategies for defeating Greydwarfs, see Aggressive creature strategies § Greydwarf.

Greydwarfs' attack pattern includes running at you, attacking twice and retreating then returning to attack after a few seconds. When at a distance, a Greydwarf will instead attack by throwing a rock. In early game, avoiding these rocks is important to fighting groups of greydwarfs. When fighting a single greydwarf; attempt to block their hit with a shield or your chosen weapon, then attack. When fighting groups in early game, it is recommended to single them out while evading the rocks others throw.

When taking down nests, it is possible to use these enemies own attacks against the nest. Hiding behind the nest while the greydwarfs throw rocks at it is a viable, although slow way of taking them down, or could be a means to avoid the rock throws while hitting the nest.

Notes[]

  • As written on Runestone: "Let all who read me beware of the Greydwarfs, the skulkers in darkness, the soulless ones. They are born from rot and rainfall, they spring like mushrooms from the smoking soil. There is nothing on their tongues or behind their eyes, those who fear nothing should still fear them. When the soul of a murderer or a great sinner rots under the ground, it makes a hollow cyst which draws rock and wood and moss to it. It gathers up the peat into flesh, braids reeds into bone and takes rags for skin. It should not walk but when the night comes it walks. Should you who read this see one with a sword to your hand, lance it and let it out. Or put it to the torch, for it fears the flame."
  • The word Greydwarf is derived from Astrid Lindgren's tale Ronja the Robber's daughter (Ronja Rövare Dotter). Originally named Grådvärgar, which is literally translated to Greydwarves. They are short creatures with grey fur who will attack a person when they sense the victim's fear. If you are emotionally aggressive then they will leave you be.
