Valkyrie

Valkyries are creatures found in Valheim. They are large, bird-like creatures that fly newly slain Vikings into the world of Valheim.

Biography[]

Nothing is known about Valheim's Valkyries beyond the fact that they are extremely large birds that have been tasked by Odin himself to scour various battlefields for the greatest deceased warriors and transport them into the Tenth World.

In Norse mythology, Valkyries are winged female warriors who serve the Aesir and guide the souls of deceased warriors whom have proven themselves and fallen in battle. Half of these souls will go to Freyja in Fólkvangr and half to Odin in Valhalla where they will become Einherjar. It appears that Valkyries serve a similar purpose in Valheim despite the differentiation of appearance. Here, their association with birds (ravens, falcons, and/or swans) is greatly emphasized through their signature avian form which clad in golden-colored armor and feminine, humanoid features which noticeable if one looks closely. A symbolic parallel can be theorized that the Player died in an unknown battle and was brought to the 10th world in order to prove themselves and earn entry into Valhalla.
