Silver veins are resource nodes found in tall Mountains. They drop silver ore and stone when mined with an iron pickaxe or better.

Veins can be detected by equipping the Wishbone. The Wishbone will emit a tone along with colored particles from the player when a vein is nearby. The tone becomes higher-pitched and faster the closer the player is to the vein.

Alternatively, the player can hit the terrain at random positions with Stagbreaker or an iron sledge until a "Too hard" message is seen under the ground, this is known as Prospecting. While slower, this does not require killing Bonemass.

Spawning[]

The world generator attempts 50 times to find a suitable position for a single vein on every zone. The spawn position must have the following conditions:

  • Mountain biome
  • At least 120 meter altitude
  • Up to 30 degree terrain angle
  • 10 random points within nine meters have up to a three-meter altitude difference

If successful, the vein is placed four meters under the ground.

Drops[]

Vein always have the same Y-shaped layout with 100 nodes with 40 hp each. Each of the nodes may drop 2-3 of the following:

Item Silver ore
Silver ore
Stone
Stone
Drop Rate 33.3% 66.7%

On average, one silver vein will produce about 83.3 silver ore and about 166.7 stone.

Notes[]

  • Metal deposits do not respawn.
  • Like other metals, silver ore cannot be teleported.
  • Silver veins sometimes intersect with nearby stone, but can be mined after the stone is removed.
  • Drakes and obsidian require 100 meter altitude to spawn. These can be used to measure the mountain height.
  • Veins are more likely to appear completely underground on even terrain. However, the random check allows them also to be placed on uneven terrain, which can leave them naturally exposed.
