Lava is an environmental hazard and point of interest found in Ashlands. Flametal ore veins are located in lava lakes, and will sink into the lava once struck.

Description[]

Lava deals a high amount of contact damage, being able to kill a player roughly in a second. Additionally, fireballs often emerge from it. Thus, one must be very careful treading around it. Dying in lava causes the tombstone to be left behind on top of the lava.

It can be crossed by creating small platforms using Basalt bombs or by riding a tamed Asksvin.

Lava doesn't flow, rather, it is a type of the ground, akin to pathen or paved road. It can be terraformed using a Hoe or mined with a Pickaxe, but it cannot be paved over. Exploding Unstable lava rocks leave a crater in it when detonated.

Flametal structures are the only structures that can be easily built anywhere on it. Other structures require a minimum distance of 2m from the lava surface (vertically and horizontally) before it starts burning. An exception to this, is the Black marble column, wide/small, that can sometimes be built closer to, or right on the lava edge without burning.

Tips[]

  • Most Ashlands creatures are able to walk on top of lava. Asksvins are especially dangerous, as their leaps can easily knock players onto lava.
    • Tamed Asksvins can be used to cross lava safely.
  • Flametal Armor provides a 40% heat resistance bonus.
  • Keeping a couple Basalt bombs (or their ingredients) at base is useful for recovering a tombstone after death.
  • Even though most structures burn when in contact to Lava, that is not instant. Making them a semi-viable platform to jump across in a pinch, in case you don't have Basalt bombs on hand.
