However, I still loved this one. And I'm going to tell you why. These times are stressful for most of us and I just loved curling up with this book and enjoying it for an hour. A cup of tea and sitting in my favourite armchair and for a moment I was just lost in this book.
So, thank you for bringing us this little book, it's all I needed.
I have to say that while I follow Catana, lately her posts were not showing up on my feed and therefore I can say that I did not see the majority of these comics, therefore, it all felt like new content to me. Which made it more fun....more

I recently had an ARC for I Hope This Helps by Tommy Siegel and while that was not the biggest hit with me, in my review I said that my favourite parts from the book were those which included the candy hearts. So, of course, I could not pass on this one.
And I was not disappointed. It was a very quick read. Very clear, concise and straight to the point/punch line.
It took the best from I Hope This Helps and gave it it's own space. It feels more neet, that there is something connecting all the comics.
So, if you are trying to decide which Tommy Siegel book to get, I would recommend Candy Hearts. But! I have to say that it only shows a part of his cartoon style. (Though, in my opinion, the best). Which means that if you like this still does not mean you will like all of his other work or the other way around. This is more of a sample....more

I read this book without any prior knowledge of the author or his art... which I usually think is a bonus because it cannot happen that I already know the majority of the work. At first, I was enjoying the art quite a bit, but as I was getting more into the story, I was finding it hard and hard to keep my focus and interest. And for me, the biggest downfall was the texts which sometimes accompanied the images. Mostly I thought that it did not add anything to the story.
My favourite part was all the comics which included candy hearts!
Overall, it was an okay read, but I cannot say that I would come back to read another book by this author. However, I have mad respect for the author to try to challenge himself to draw 500 comics in 500 days, one each day. I would be exhausted on day 5....more

So, I read a book The Book Love by Debbie Tung some time last year, and when I saw that she has another one, I just went for it. However, I have to say that I do not follow this author anywhere, so, the whole content in this book was new to me.
And while I found the Book Love rather relatable and sometimes it was just funny because I was very guilty of all things the author showed in her book. However, in this one, I was missing it. It was the daily life of a young couple. I did only very few funny moments; I could probably count those on the fingers of one hand.
This is just very much the case of me reading this book just because of the author. It was cute in an okay way, meaning I did not love it, nor did I hate it. Just very average....more

I'm really starting to enjoy the Europe Comics publications.
This one follows the murders of women in Mexico where they keep finding decapitated bodies and the heads are missing. As this suggests, it was very gruesome and violent, so, beware, it's not for everyone. I enjoyed the sort of "dirty" feel to it; the art is grim and smudgy. However, the font used for the dialogue was the same, and sometimes I had a hard time reading it....more

Seeing that this book was by Huda was an instant to-read for me. I enjoy her comics very much. And I like that she does not hesitate to joke on her account as well.
This book is not the usual "comics strips". It actually tells the story of how she got married, from her first crush, through getting her suitors and then finding the one under the supervision of her mother. There is actual text (minimal) which is accompanied by the art.
I actually enjoyed it that it all connected and said one story. Honestly, I would not mind more content, especially on his parents.
Overall, a charming read. I would say that it's probably like 3,5/5⭐....more

Okay, this book had the unlucky fate that I read this right after the Awkward Yeti which is a very tough competition and this book just could not compete.
I actually did not realise I knew this artist before but while reading this I realised that I knew so many of the strips which was not very good. (I stated several times before that I do prefer if these online arts to a book have more new content than what was previously posted online). Which is actually rather strange since I could not find a media where I would be following the artist. And Honestly, I maybe chuckled once while reading this, very disappointed. This book did not seem to have a theme, something to tie the strips together. So, it was a bit content dump. While I can understand that some of the comics were not my kind of humour but sometimes I even struggled to see what was supposed to be funny there.
In the end, I was mostly skimming through since I did not want to DNF this one....more

However, I always only followed the comics online; I did not read any of the previous books. But I can certainly say that this is one of the best from online comics to a book I've ever read. I did not expect to get whole stories (over several pages long) instead of the usual short comic strips. And it was so well done. And I believe this is completely new content, I never saw any of these stories only before this. Every chapter tells a story of a different person which is illustrated in The Awkward Yeti fashion (favourite moment was when one image describe what was supposed to be there and then said: above the artistic abilities of the creator - I just loved that.)
It all started so well. The first story was a great start, and I knew this will go very well. It still is one of my favourite moments together with the kidney stones in the amateur geologist story and where's Waldo?
However, there were certain stories that were absolutely terrifying to me. Like the lawn-mover and I cannot imagine how anyone could think that could be a good idea! Anyway, I'm actually a bit impressed. I never saw a land-mower which would be easy to pick up. And then Chapter 15, the bane of my existence, I would be happy if I never had to think about it, my insides twisted when reading that chapter! On a different note, I was a bit sadden by the mother who freaked out because her child was teething, how did she expect the child to acquire teeth? Was she saving to buy dentures for the child?
Yeah, this was so worth it! Loved it. However, there is one way to make this more perfect! Dr. Mike (Varshavski) needs to make a video reacting to thins!

Well, I've sort of liked this.
The art is not really my cup of tea, and I have to say that unfortunately, this comics does not really stand up to the qualities of similar comics. I was not previously familiar with the author and I'm still trying to decide whether I'm going to follow his current work.
However, I think the visual portrayal of depression is well done, as well as the side effects. It's strange to mark this as something positive, but I think that the author did a fabulous job with this. It was not something I've expected when I opened this book and it ended up being the strongest point of this book. ...more

Oh, I had no idea that this book was happening. I previously enjoyed the first book very much but for some reason this art sort of disappeared from my facebook. In the past, it used to flood my feed but thinking about it; I did not see one in a very long time. So, I was a bit surprised, seeing this book, since I did not hear any news about it being published.
And you can bet that I almost knocked over my laptop trying to open it fast enough.
Overall I was very pleasantly surprised! Since these comics stopped showing on my facebook, I can say that I knew only three before reading this. And trust me, it made it just so much better!
What I love about these is that they are super relatable; it just seems like my life, it gives me the illusion of normalcy. What can I say, my limbs are currently cold, and I'm hungry — the story of my life. At least I'm not the only one suffering the same fate.
This was a wonderful surprise and with a puppy as a bonus! What's not to like? Plus, I also like the cover, it's in such a stark contrast with the first book. Pretty, pretty....more

Well, I have to say the moment I saw this book I thought that it would be about Anne of Cleves a.k.a. the luckiest wife of Henry VIII.
I never heard about the book The Princess of Clèves before, so, I was in for a surprise.
As for this comics, it was very well done. I liked the art, the muted colours which I felt fitted it very well. The storyline was simple, but I was interested in seeing where it was going.
However, me being me, I have some issues with it. I suppose the story took several years, but the characters kept wearing the same clothing! (Okay, sometimes the main character changed the colour of her dress, but it still felt like the same dress. I'm here for the dresses!) It may be because it was supposed to help you to tell the characters apart and I can get that because I kept confusing the husband and the uncle of the main character plus another guy was pretty similar but he disappeared pretty quickly from the story. But the unchanged dresses were bugging me! I'm not sure how much time has passed, it started in winter 1558, Henry II of France died in July 1559 which is like 2/3 into the story. So, it may be two years or so. Then, some dialogues were a bit tedious, spreading over several pages, and I had to skip them cause I could not do with the pathos.
But overall, I did enjoy it, it was a fun evening reading this, and I think I may even have a look at the original book!

I very much believe that my assessment or impression from this book is clouded/influenced by two things. I enjoy this dark or even cruel humour, some people may find it horrible or even disgusting, and I totally respect that. Furthermore, I was in a bit of a down mood, did not want to go to sleep, I did not enjoy the movie my family was watching, I did not feel like reading, so I went to NetGalley to see if I could find some comics or something similar to this. This caught my attention because the colour was the same as my mood, down and the picture is pretty much me. So, it completely fitted me at the moment.
Apparently, this comics is also published online, but I never saw it before.
I cannot say that I laughed aloud at any of this, but most of the time I had a bit of a smirk. Sometimes I was a bit missing the point, and when I finally found it, it was usually hilarious.
My favourites were the "space" Roomba, ghost bedbugs, snails doing drugs and burying at sea.
But as I said, this book is definitely not for everybody....more

Edit: I just noticed that this book is mine 1300 book rated and I think I am actually pretty happy that this milestone got a five-star rating.
Okay, now I'm angry at myself. I got this book in May, but it took me until now to read it.
And I'm speechless.
The segregation, Jim Crow and then the Civil Rights Movement. I read so much about those, and it still surprises me how much I still do not know. It's a fascinating topic and terrifying at the same time. Of course, I'm not an American, so, my perspective is a bit different. Sometimes this feels like a very distant history to me, which is not. I believe that the distance (different continent) makes it seem that way since I do not have any real connection to that part of history, space, relatives, or something.
Back to the story. We all heard about Rosa Parks, and it surprised me that there was someone who may have inspired her. I never heard about Claudette Colvin, and it made me rethink what I know about the desegregation movement. Going through this story, I realised that I was familiar with so many people, even Fred Gray but not her. I also knew the Browder v. Gayle case but still not her. Terrifying how easy is it to fade.
"Your actions alone speak volumes; there's no need to speak."
"Everyone clapped for Rosa Parks, but she wasn't asked to speak."
(Both referring to Rosa Parks)
I really need to refresh my knowledge of the movement. Because I never realised how women were sidelined in it. How Claudette Colvin was feared to tarnish its image because she was pregnant, unmarried teenager.
I'm glad that Claudette is now (hopefully) getting the recognition she deserves and at the same time, I wonder if there are more of these heroes who faded in the background.
I also liked the visual; colours were well chosen to accompany the story. The art was simple enough that the book would be accessible to children, but at the same time, it was realistic enough that adult reader is not distracted by it....more

Unfortunately, after loving the first "scene", my interest in this or any enjoyment went downhill and I was unable to read more than 10 or 15%. Okay, let me tell you that this confused me, a lot. At first, I had to download this book like five times because I thought that I was doing something wrong. That was not Lucifer but Sandman! However, after reading some reviews, I realised that really one-quarter of this Lucifer Volume is about Sandman, which I mostly skipped because I read it just recently.
I have to say that I know Sandman way better than I do know Lucifer, but I still managed to get what was going on fairly quickly. But I was not invested in the story until the last 20 pages or so.
Plus my everlasting issue with Lucifer stories is that since I'm not a native speaker, I have a very, very hard time grasping what Mazikeen is saying....more

Did I saw this Sandman on NetGalley and almost went through my screen because I was so eager to request it? Sure I did.
(I had pretty much the same reaction when I learned that Netflix would create a Sandman series... Now? I'm scared if it will be a good adaptation or not. And I keep wondering if I want them to follow closely the original or to go the same way the creators of Lucifer went.)
Back to the Dreaming. Turn the first page was so exciting! I could not believe that I was back! The Dreaming! And the first pages, wow, back. I was ecstatic!
However, as I progressed, the excitement started to die down. I kept wondering "Didn't we all read this before? Lord of the Dreaming is missing." AGAIN?
And that feeling never left me. What worked once, or twice or even three times... did not work this time.
Plus, I just cannot stand Dora.
However, despite all that, The Dreaming and Sandman is something... it's so high up there that it's so hard to achieve that level of brilliance.
Was this good? Yes. Did it measure up to the original series? No.

I never heard about this before... Not sure if the author is posting on social media as well. And seeing that the author is Spanish, it might be the reason why I did not see her work before. I really liked the colour scheme which was really soothing. And it was fun that some "Stories" were just a page or two and some spanned over several pages.
However, after reading all three books by Sarah’s Scribbles and the book by Catana Comics... this felt very similar to those two but unfortunately did not measure up. Or maybe all of the "funny" situations were explored for me. I'm not entirely sure.
