It was written from her point of view! I expected that I would be a bit more convinced by what she was saying! But come on, any villain would do a better job trying to persuade us that his intentions are good than Tarny did.

Taryn needs a smackdown in Blair Waldorf fashion! She's a pathetic little girl that's worried that no one will like her and she will have to do something! So, she did the easiest way to possibly secure a comfy, little life. 😂😂😂 Well, let's wait and see how that will turn out for Taryn.

It took me a month to read this. And I mean a month to read, I was reading almost daily.

I was unsure of how to rate this book. On the one hand, I did not like it. On the other hand, I did like it a bit more than Serpent & Dove. The first would make this two stars, the second probably two and a half, therefore, three to make the difference visible. I've been flipping the coin on this for the whole day. And I settled on three stars for the time being. The reasonings are quite simple. While this one definitely was not my favourite, I'm seriously considering reading the next one because I believe and I hope that it has potential. So, the deal is, I give this three stars for now and if 2020 passes without me reading the next book, I'll change the rating to two stars. However, I'm saying it now; this is a two and a half stars, one of the weakest three stars I ever gave and I still do not feel right with giving this book three stars. (Hello, Goodreads? Yeah, it's me, I'm just calling again, we still need a bigger range in rating books, thank you!)
Okay, to the book.
I have to say that as someone who speaks a Slavic language I just find it so strange to see so many Slavic/Slavic inspired names in the middle of English text. Same with the "Slavic inspired languages" suddenly being spoken. I don't know why, but I personally find it a bit distracting. Also, why suddenly so many authors are obsessed with taking inspiration from Russia and at least here also from Poland I would presume? Tranavia is based on Poland, right? Or is that just my imagination? Anyway, I did not read it as Tranavia, but instead, I read Travian every single time, and it really reminded me how much fun I had with that game!
As for the story... I don't think that it was terrible. It seems like a story with very good potential, unfortunately, all that all was clouded by the fact that I was bored a couple of chapters in and things only became interesting with only a handful chapters left. I mean if I were to sum up the story, it sounds quite fascinating. However, between the good parts, there were just too many fillers where nothing happened, and they just talked. Even when we get to the Rawalyk, it seems so pointless. Yeah, someone dies, there is a dinner, and then the story moves from it. Feels a bit pointless that for more than a half of the book, the characters did not talk about anything but Rawalyk.
Nadya, what should I say about her? She's very unmemorable to me, she's fading in with so many others not really that great YA/fantasy heroines. She also needs to get off her high horse. Because that was one of my main problems with her, aside from being unmemorable, she was on the highest high horse I've encountered in a very long time. The horse was that high that all the other characters did not reach the horse's hooves even if they were at the top of the Pelageya's tower.
Her quest was divine and the Tranavians were heretics
You are a heretic. You just laid out sheer heresy in front of me. And my power is divine; calling me 'holier than thou' i just trite."
Did I mention that Nadya is on a high horse?
Her "heretic" this and "heretic" that made her so unlikeable that it became quite hard to even care about the Kalyazin at all. It's so funny how one moment she's like "oh, they are not all that bad, I don't want to kill this person or that person" and the next she's on the heretic tirade once again.
Maybe you noticed, but Nadya was one of my main problems with this book. She would need some serious character development for me to get past book two.
(view spoiler)[Why there is romance forced into every YA/fantasy story? Zero chemistry between Nadya and Malachiasz. Totally forced. And it felt like the romance was forced so that Nadya would have a reason not to attack Malachiasz in the end. I mean she spent most of the book saying that she would kill him anyway for being Tranavian. Then he is revealed to be worse than she thought that he is the worse. And she does nothing? Pathetic. (hide spoiler)]
Malachiasz... He is definitely a more interesting character than Nadya is. But I'm going to say it here and now. At first? Yeah, okay. But in the last let's say 15%? Yeah, that's the character I want.
"We're all monsters, Nadya," Malachiasz said, his voice gaining a few tangled chords of chaos. "Some of us just hide it better than others."
Why do I fell that the sentence missing from here is: "You're monster as well, Nadya."?
Parijahan and Rashid seemed like very interesting characters but did not have enough space to get properly developed. And for some reason, they feel like the characters who will die trying to save the main character, which is disappointing.
Serefin. In a very tentative way, I'm going to say that I like him. But. I did like him more at the beginning of the book, where he was a bit more fierce? Cruel? Cutthroat? Slightly opposite to Malachiasz. But still, he is one of the more fun characters in this book.
Which connects to Ostyia and Kacper, totally my favourite characters and I need more on them! I can take just books on Ostyia, Kacper and Serefin. I have nothing more to say; they are just the best....more

The first one was bad. What did I think? :o Well, I did not think, and it's not my fault. Completely. My friend and I pretty often switch our e-readers, and we just did. I told her about reading the first one in the series, along with the problems I had and she told me to read the rest of the series with a bit of threatening and laughing. So I did. Because I figured it could not be much worse than the first one was.
Man, was I wrong?
Where I liked the main female character more than the previous one, I seriously wanted to chuck the book out of the window.
There is not much I'm going to say about this book, but I need to say one thing.
My Russian is a bit rusty (okay, a lot).
But even I see that the author butchered it!
moy chernovolosyy koroleva
moy - is used for a male
chernovolosyy - also for a male
koroleva - and suddenly a Queen. A female.
It is not something that is in English, so I get it that it is confusing. But trust me, it looks really really bad.
There were more problems with Russian, but I think this is enough to illustrate. And the thing that bugs me is the fact that if I was writing anything and had a sentence in a language, I do not speak I would get a native speaker to check it for me. Honestly, it would take me thirty seconds to go to Facebook, find a local Expat group and I bet if I posted a question "Hello, writing a book/story. How would you say this sentence xx in Russian? Thank you!" And I'm telling you, you would get tens of answers! Was it hard? No. I have no idea why the author did not do that.
Another thing that bugs me. The main male calls the girl "his blyad". I'm not going to go into the fact this word has really, really bad connotation. But the thing that made me angry is the fact this is a five-letter word, and the author managed to mistype it three times as "blayd". And actually, it is as first used in the wrong spelling and it really confused me. No one edited this book or what? You do not need to speak Russian to see that there are two different spellings for one word!
Nope, nope, nope.
Btw, every book had so many people betraying Bratva; I'm sort of surprised there is anyone left. Or that they are not in jail, seeing that they are so many people just waiting to betray them for the right price tag.
I’d hoped I could marry for love now that my sisters had already been married off for tactical reasons.
“Gianna and I married for political reasons. W I’d hoped I could marry for love now that my sisters had already been married off for tactical reasons.
“Gianna and I married for political reasons. Why should Lily not be allowed to marry someone she wants?”
And I'm done with this series. I cannot take this any longer. How come that everyone suddenly turned so stupid? Like with the hope she'll be able to marry for love. Who could have even thought that after reading more than a page about their father? They all say how cruel he is and then they hope he'll be nice? Come on! And the huge love story that started back then when Lily fell from Romero when she was like 14- years-old or whatever? Nope, there was nothing between them, felt forced and stupid.
“Mother told me to be happy shortly before she died. And Romero makes me happy. I want to be with him.”
I thought that Gianna was dumb, but Lily takes the cake. This is just completely ridiculous. Luca actually won the Scuderi lottery. He got the only Scuderi girl that is not absolutely annoying and does not act on pure emotions. (view spoiler)[Except for some dumb decisions like helping Gianna run and then hiding Lily's secret. (hide spoiler)]
I went against his direct orders after all. That’s still a crime.”
Yes! He went against his boss, against direct orders. And after three books where Luca was painted as monster etc. he should have just put a bullet in his head and shipped Lily off to her father. This makes no sense. Same with "I won't go to war with Outfit because of this" and then suddenly "Fine, the war is happening no matter what."
Also, there are a lot of inconsistencies. Like the girl, Rocco (view spoiler)[ is going to marry (hide spoiler)] goes from being named Ramona to Maria. That's just sloppy.
So no, this series is so OVER for me. Nothing makes sense, and the characters just get more annoying with each other book in the series....more

I still think that the one about Aria and Luca was probably the best one. This one was slightly better than the one about Valentina and Dante but still... Not really sure how to rate it. My main problem is that I cannot stand Gianna. In the previous books, I hated Rocco, their father and he was painted in this one especially bad. But you know what? I did not care. I simply cannot stand Gianna to that point that I would not care if they did something far worse to her. She just has to insist on being on a high horse, showing how she doesn't care and want something different and yet to just complain again about something else. I like Matteo but his obsession with Gianna is absolutely senseless, and after talking how much Luca needs to keep his face Matteo just goes around almost doing his best to make Luca seem weak. Same with Aria, she may love Gianna, but I don't think she would really help her escape. That had potential to end really bad, and I don't think she would really risk that. Especially since Luca would be the one who would have been hurt by that.
So, I don't know how to rate this one because I rate the first one 3* and the second 2* and this one is just somewhere in the middle. Goodreads need to introduce half stars....more

At the beginning I did not really like it and thought that it was worse than the first book then it seemed maybe a bit better. What I liked more was that we got to see more of the mafia business. But in regards to their relationship, I did not like it all. It did not seem real at all, it was forced and really laughable to read about. Both of them acted very stupidly in unnecessary situations.
And to be honest Aria is supposed to be the timid one and Valentine even describes herself (several times) as a strong woman, but then you can see her as the one really bowing down to her husband and doing what's asked of her. It's one of the tropes I dislike. A heroine saying how strong and independent she is but then she acts nothing like that....more

EDIT (05/09/2017): Change of rating.
Writing this review is a bit hard for me. I kept thinking and overthinking every single sentence. I loved the Beyond series very much; I was constantly re-reading the series and getting the copy of Deacon I just realised that since finishing Ashwin, I didn't go back to re-read a single scene from it. Realising this I was a bit sceptical; well, I was sceptical also because of the Deacon/Ana duo. They didn't sit well with me from the very beginning we knew they would be a couple. Which wasn't anything new, I was sceptical about Jeni and Hawk book because I didn't care for either of them, but the outcome was good. Here? For me? Not so much.
I'll start with better things. I love the Riders. Especially Reyes, Hunter, and Gabe. Always waiting for another scene with them. Which was also the part of the problem. I like the book when it was Deacon and others, even Ana (okay, not really her) and others but not the two together. If you took out the "romance" part of this book it would be decent. And since the romance is such a huge part of the story that's a problem I would say.
And to my main problem. I basically couldn't stand Ana! The first female Rider, the legacy of her father. Bragging about it, fighting for it and then after it all, she's just a little girl too scared that others will only judge her! Come on! Everybody is always judged, no matter what! And after more bragging about how she cannot sacrifice all she ever achieved because they are going to laugh at her for it and say that somehow she cheated, she basically does what she knows is a big No, No! (view spoiler)[Calling out Deacon (by extension even Gideon) in front of everyone that his plan is rubbish is also rubbish! Come on; you know that what he says it's what's going to happen. He's the damn boss! But because she sleeps with him and possibly loves him, she now thinks she can just disrespect him as a leader in front of everyone? No matter how bad the plan or the decision is, you cannot scream at your boss in front of everyone! Plus it just seemed she needed to stomp a bit around and scream to feel better about herself. (hide spoiler)]
So, what can I say? This book is a low for me. Saving grace for me is the rest of the Riders. And the promise of the storyline. (view spoiler)[ If the killing of the ruling family of a Sector had a nice little price tag of a million, how much is it to kill the Riders, probably the best soldiers/army you can find in the sectors? (hide spoiler)] And the promise of next stories - Waiting for Ivan and Maricela which I have high hopes for! Then Gideon and (view spoiler)[ Lex's sister! (hide spoiler)], Gabe and definitely (view spoiler)[Laurel, they were so cute in his book! (hide spoiler)]. And I cannot wait to see who will be brave enough to catch Reyes that one will be fun!
Well, as I said everything other than the couple was great, which leaves me with a hard choice of rating. I'm somewhere between two and three stars. Cannot really decide but since it's so close to finishing the novel and I know I am way too angry with Ana that if I rate it two stars, I'll probably change it to three stars in a while because as I said, this novel minus Ana is pretty good. - Okay, no. This book is 2 star for me. No change....more

A hned z toho vyplývá další vět.

I wasn't really a fan of the previous book, especially because I never found a way how to like Hartley. But the HUGE cliffhanger forced me to read this book asap. Well, after finishing my review, I feel like I'm even generous with my rating. Funny thing that I always realize how angry a book made me only when I write the review.
Let's start from the beginning. The whole "(view spoiler)[ amnesia thing (hide spoiler)]" it only seemed to me like the author didn't know what to do with the plot and thought that this would be an amazing plot or solution. Well, no, sorry, it was not.
I'm not a doctor but (view spoiler)[, so she remembers nothing, and they just send her to school? Like nothing happened, you would expect some sort of counseling and "transition," tests what she remembers and what not. I get that her parents are assholes, but I would think that this would alert social services or someone that a girl who remembers nothing is just sent to school. Same with Sebastian, he woke from god knows how long coma a guy that is going to trial for murder just gets him out of the hospital and then he is in school like a couple of days later. (hide spoiler)] Really don't get that and I would be really surprised if that were how that worked in the US. (view spoiler)[Talking about a guy who committed a murder. It was said that he was also being charged with an attempt to kill Ella as well. - Btw, when did he try to kill her? Because what happened at the end of the Twisted Palace did not seem like attempted murder to me. But still, she is a major witness in the case. He should not be allowed anywhere near her! But he can just come to the house where she lives? No restrictions on that? Seriously? (hide spoiler)] And since I'm already talking about the lack of action from CPS or anyone for that matter, let's add other issues. (view spoiler)[ So, at the end Hartley's dad is dead, her mother just packs her backs and goes away as well as her older sister. And no social services, CPS or anyone is involved when she leaves Dylan, her 13-year-old daughter with the family of the guy her 17-year-old daughter is dating? And do not tell me that it's the money. The case was under media scrutiny; they would definitely report on that. (hide spoiler)]
Okay, this feels like this review is going to be full of spoilers.
(view spoiler)[ I won't really comment on Callum going to Dubai to close a deal when his son is in a comma. If Sebastian was in a comma like for a month or so then okay but it was what? Days? Week? And he was off and left Easton in charge of everyone. As if he wasn't drinking all the time and Callum was aware of that. You would guess he would at least force Gideon or Reed to come back. (hide spoiler)]
As for Easton. In the last book, I was really angry about his behavior towards Ella. And to be honest several times in this book it was even worse than in the previous one. As well as his behavior altogether. (view spoiler)[He made no sense at all. He was just making things worse on purpose and then trying to excuse himself. (hide spoiler)]
Okay, so little miss Hartley. Still, don't like her. And have nothing much to say about her. Only that her actions were sometimes really stupid and forced her to do things were complicated. Maybe she should keep her mouth shut, just maybe sometimes.
The first half of the book is really slow and almost pointless.
We got some mandatory Felicity drama. Again sort of doing the same to get rid of the mean girl as Ella did. (view spoiler)[ Really don't get the Kyle thing. So Felicity set it up, and her parents just went with it? I understand that Kyle did it for money but don't understand why he punched her. Makes no sense at all. (hide spoiler)]
Then there is Steve who just won't go away. And I already voiced some of my issues about him in some of the previous spoilers. But let's add another. (view spoiler)[ So he has an ankle bracelet to monitor where he goes. And put that together with the fact that he should not be allowed anywhere near Ella he should be in jail for being at Royal's place. But okay, let'S pretend he could just order Ella in his car and all would be fine. Then to his suicide, come on, that was only a stupid way how to finish the book and close the Steve's issue without writing about the trial. (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[Also, Steve just goes crazy, shooting anything and everything. It also gets revealed that Easton is apparently his son. Which was suggested in the previous book by Hartley's father. I didn't believe it because a) didn't really think the author would go for the Ella and Easton kiss and b)in the first three books it was hinted that the twins were more like Steve so it would make more sense if it were them than Easton. (hide spoiler)]
Also about Hartley's father who was just behaving really stupidly and I'm sort of surprised he managed to go on with it as long as he did. (view spoiler)[He also said that he pushed Hartley at the hospital that caused her amnesia. (really convenient) But I re-read her fall, and I do not see how he could push her without anyone seeing it. They were looking at her! (hide spoiler)]
Hopefully my last issue with the book. The twins and Lauren and anything altogether. Since the author revealed that the Royals were over, no more books, no-extras no nothing I'm really confused and maybe even angry because we always got just hints on them. A built up of their story to get people interested, and I really wanted to know more about them. And the author is just like: No book for them. Okay, then at least please explain the things in this book! (view spoiler)[ The author just threw there that Lauren broke up with them which made me really angry. It was same as with Steve. Just deleting the character so I don't have to bother with an explanation. And I thought I was angry after the previous book when Lauren went from the sweet and nice girl to a complete opposite manipulative monster. But this got me angry even more. (hide spoiler)]
Also (view spoiler)[Sebastian woke up after being super angry and rude which is understandable but we won't ever know if he gets better or what. (hide spoiler)]
Wow, after letting all of my anger out I sort of wonder if there is really something I've liked about the book. Also, as some people already pointed out there were some really unnecessary typos in the book....more

I loved the "original" series about Liam and Melody, and this fell a little very flat. It was nowhere near the first series. And I knew this one was going to be different. I knew that children are not their parents, but even if you take away the comparison with the Ruthless people series this book was just bad.
It may have tried to be its own thing but quite often it was building parallels with the original series. As if there was a fear to let Melody and Liam go because they were what was popular. (view spoiler)[ The hate for the Callahans at the beginning, not working relation between siblings, Ivy getting pregnant and losing the baby same as Melody. (hide spoiler)]
A lot of was missing, nothing much happened, the characters were flat compared to those in the first series.
In the end, I started to finally like at least Wyatt who was my least favourite in the original series but here there is not much to pick from.
And Dona? She is trying to be the second Melody, but she is just laughable. Petty little brat. Disappointed, I expected more from her than this.
(view spoiler)[So, Melody and Liam are still alive. Any chance of them coming back and kicking their asses? (hide spoiler)]
So, this is the end of my review and I mentioned Ivy only once... well, that's telling, isn't it? Rather a pointless character. Have nothing to say about her, she's just background noise.
+ I found a couple of typos and missing words in the book. But that's just the norm with these books....more
I am angry! I couldn't wait for this book, and I've got this?
Easton had his problems in the previous books; yeThis review might be mildly spoilerish.
I am angry! I couldn't wait for this book, and I've got this?
Easton had his problems in the previous books; yeah he's a drunk, has an addiction problem, has a thing for his brothers' girlfriends but he had a good side, too. In this book? He's back to square one. During the previous trilogy, he improved, mostly thanx to Ella. Now, he spends most of the book wasted. Every time he speaks to Ella, he's just mean to her. Saying rude things to her, basically telling her that Reed is cheating on her and is happy that he's away from Ella because she's a controlling him way too much. And then he realises that he shouldn't have said that to her and somewhat apologises. I liked the scenes between Ella and Easton in PP, BP, and TP. But here? No! Really, Easton is bragging and whining how he's always left behind, etc. but honestly? He's just mean and almost bully-ish!
Then the twins and Lauren? I loved twins in the original trilogy; they were fun. And Lauren was sweet, and unlike everyone else in that school, she wasn't a massive b*tch. So I'm asking why?! (view spoiler)[Why did they have to make a bigger b*tch than Jordan out of her?! Like seriously! And now she is even unable to tell the twins apart? Come on! And the whole making slaves out of them? First, before the twins didn't seem to be that dumb to fall for that. Second, I am just asking why! (hide spoiler)]
Then the whole Felicity thing? Ridiculous! Just plain ridiculous! :D Cannot stop laughing. So, she's supposed to be the next Jordan? She's just there for one and only thing. (view spoiler)[Come on, putting the answers in the girl's locker? There are better ways how to get a plot twist. (hide spoiler)]
So, I ranted for a while now, and I said nothing about the girl; Easton's love interest. I think that says something. Easton says at the beginning that she's just plain. And I have to agree. She's just there. I don't even remember her that much. Yeah, the family issue somewhat seems to be interesting but they hid it till the end. So honestly? I don't care for her one bit. Also, during BP I believe, Easton drops some hints about some mysterious girl, but suddenly we get some unknown girl. Come on! Don't drop hints like that just to completely disregard it later.
So what else remains to be said? In the end, Easton was just dumb. (view spoiler)[Hartley's dad telling him that he's possibly Steven's son. Don't buy into it. First, I don't think that if that were the case, the author would have done the Ella/Easton kiss in PP. Second, previously it was said that the twins are more like Steve, not Easton. So, if anyone would be Steve's kid, I think it would be the twins. (hide spoiler)] And since I'm talking about Steve. (view spoiler)[I thought that he gave most of his money to Ella, so how come he's out of the prison and has money for lawyers? Seems confusing to me. And him coming to see Ella? Really? (hide spoiler)]
In the end, there is a huge cliffhanger, and yet I don't really care. The cliffhangers at the end of PP and BP were more WTF for me. Yes, I wonder how it's gonna end (view spoiler)[hopefully without the twins dying (hide spoiler)]. But honestly, I know that we are going to be in for a lot of Hartley drama, and I don't care for that. (view spoiler)[Don't know American law but driving in the car like that with the rearview mirror practically unattached and unusable? That screams prison to me. (hide spoiler)]
Even though this was huge let down for me, I'll still read the next one just to see what's going to happen. (view spoiler)[I just hope that Hartley's dad won't do something to free Steve that would seriously p*ss me off! Because where the original trilogy was sort of "resolved" with Steve being arrested this is undoing that which I do not like that much. (hide spoiler)]...more

Wulf - Jameson Eden - Ang Katya - sort of Tate but with zero self-esteem
I hated that she was constantly putting herself down.
But the ending was shocking - NEVER saw that one coming. Stylo again managed to prove that she is a great author. So even though this is not my favourite work of hers, I will read the sequel....more

I loved the idea. The beginning was awesome. Then it started to be soooo boring and so repetitive. I slowly started to hate every single character. Then I stopped reading for some time. I almost thought that I would DNF it but then decided against it.
And the ending? Was freaking amazing! Did not see that coming at all. Which made me happy that I finished the book. However, overall I have to say that I would still call this book a slight disappointment.
A piece of advice: Do not bring the book with you if you have an internship. (Mainly if you're also reading a different edition, in Czech it's called "How to kill your boss".)...more
For future reference - Always have a different book to read.

If I did have something else to read while travelling, I would DNF this like two chapters in. I did not like the characters at all. And the plot was just a background noise for them to get to the bed.
We've got several plot twist/actions that were introduced during the "series": Taylor leaking the video, Lively, PRISM, (view spoiler)[ Her daddy killing some poor girl who said No (hide spoiler)]. Yet, none of this was ever solved. Just background noise....more

The plot with Lively might be interesting. Unfortunately, the author rushed the whole thing to the point where it would be way better just to skip the "plot" and make it just about sex....more

I have to say that my opinion or feelings on this book did not change.
I still hate Kiyo (from the first moment in book one). I still want more of Dorian. I still want to shake Eugenie to finally wake up! I mean no matter what Dorian does, she makes it the biggest betrayal ever and when Kiyo (view spoiler)[tries to kill her and her kids (hide spoiler)] she's totally shocked and hurt. Where's the rage? She's just surprised Pikachu. I mean Kiyo was always a bad boyfriend, and for some reason, Eugenie always tried to find some stupid excuses. In the name of "being human".
"I see. It's your turn again."
This sentence still breaks my heart.
(view spoiler)[I have to say that the whole "I already broke up with you in my head, so, I did not cheat" is some serious mental gymnastics. I mean, how hard one would have to try to come up with nonsense like that? That's not how breakups work. (hide spoiler)]
EDIT (11/4/2017): Grr! No way! Kill Kiyo! Kill him! I'll start a petition: Kill Kiyo!
I love Richelle Mead. I love her stories. Unfortunately, Eugenie is killing me!
I would love to give 5* to this book. But I cannot because of her.
I love Dorian more and more with every book. She does not deserve him. And why is she still surprise that he has his own agenda? (view spoiler)[ Come on! Is the crown just a trinket? How could she believe it? I did not think that she was really stupid. Other than liking Kiyo which is really stupid. (hide spoiler)]
"I see. It's your turn again." (view spoiler)[ Yes! She goes from Dorian to Kiyo again and again! She knows what an idiot Kiyo is! And then she is surprised that he's trying to kill her! How come that she did not see it coming? Everyone else did... (hide spoiler)]
And at the end, Dorian saves the day again....more
