Antalya

Antalya (äntälˈyä), city (2020 pop. 1,254,000), capital of Antalya prov., SW Turkey, a port on the Mediterranean Sea. Its manufactures include textiles and ships. Nearby are deposits of chrome and manganese. Founded in the 2d cent. B.C. by Attalus II, king of Pergamum, the city was known as Attaleia or Attalia, later as Adalia. It is mentioned in Acts 14.25 as the port from which Paul and Barnabas sailed to Antioch. It passed under the control of the Seljuk Turks in the 13th cent. and in the 15th cent. was annexed by the Ottoman Empire. Situated on a steep cliff, Antalya is a picturesque city surrounded by many ancient ruins; there is a notable archaeological museum. With its airport it is a gateway for S Turkey's coastal resorts.

MP and party leader Ahmed Seddik had announced on May 28, 2019 his resignation from the presidency of the Popular Front bloc, citing "the impossibility of continuing to play his role because of the situation within the PF and its fallout on the (parliamentary) bloc," according to the political bureau of the Attalia party.
"Attalia will spare no effort, to overcome the challenges and to enter the next elections with a unified front," said a statement issued by the party.
MP Ziad Lakhdar attributed the resignations to "a number of reasons, the most important of which is the crisis experienced by the Popular Front for a while ago." He refused to give further details, recalling that the Attalia party had issued earlier in the day a statement expressing "concern about the situation in the Popular Front.
The Attalia party is holding its congress on April 6 and 7, to elect the general secretary of the party as well as the political bureau members.
