BABYCARE retailer Mothercare said today it had traded resiliently in the UK, despite a 1.8pc fall in like-for-like sales for the 15 weeks to July 8.

Administrators from KPMG Corporate Recovery in the North West have sold the business and assets of Zorbit Babycare to Supercover Quilty Group for an undisclosed sum and secured 35 jobs.

The babycare retailer said yesterday sales at UK stores grew by 0.2 per cent in the 12 weeks to April 1 - or 1.2 per cent adjusted for the late timing of Easter this year.

LOWER Sydenham, London-based babycare and household products group Mayborn said its baby and child division was growing, although sales of household products remained flat, as it beat expectations with profits of pounds 8.7m.
