This one is pretty much the worst one. It's nothing more than a breading fantasy. (view spoiler)[She has to get pregnant because otherwise Dominik is supposed to marry someone else. But there are several loopholes. a) Dominik can get someone else pregnant and then be a good guy and marry that poor, pregnant girl or b) they need to catch his fiance cheating on him publicly or with a member of the Bratva (give or take). b) seems impossible because she may be sleeping around but she's careful, so he goes with a). But the girl has no say in it. He wants her pregnant, and that's it. In the end, he catches his fiance cheating, and he has his boss with him. (view spoiler)[Funny thing. When Yakov leaves, and Mike starts to woo Ashley, it is said that he was in South Africa and he saw her at her worse. The author tries really hard to present Mike as the good and sweet guy. But! When he "officially" meets Ashley, he says hi in Russian, she does not understand him and does not answer. So, he immediately calls her b*tch! If that is not a red flag, I don't know what is. The first one was bad. What did I think? :o Well, I did not think, and it's not my fault. Completely. My friend and I pretty often switch our e-readers, and we just did. I told her about reading the first one in the series, along with the problems I had and she told me to read the rest of the series with a bit of threatening and laughing. So I did. Because I figured it could not be much worse than the first one was.
Man, was I wrong?
Where I liked the main female character more than the previous one, I seriously wanted to chuck the book out of the window.
There is not much I'm going to say about this book, but I need to say one thing.
My Russian is a bit rusty (okay, a lot).
But even I see that the author butchered it!
moy chernovolosyy koroleva
moy - is used for a male
chernovolosyy - also for a male
koroleva - and suddenly a Queen. A female.
It is not something that is in English, so I get it that it is confusing. But trust me, it looks really really bad.
There were more problems with Russian, but I think this is enough to illustrate. And the thing that bugs me is the fact that if I was writing anything and had a sentence in a language, I do not speak I would get a native speaker to check it for me. Honestly, it would take me thirty seconds to go to Facebook, find a local Expat group and I bet if I posted a question "Hello, writing a book/story. How would you say this sentence xx in Russian? Thank you!" And I'm telling you, you would get tens of answers! Was it hard? No. I have no idea why the author did not do that.
Another thing that bugs me. The main male calls the girl "his blyad". I'm not going to go into the fact this word has really, really bad connotation. But the thing that made me angry is the fact this is a five-letter word, and the author managed to mistype it three times as "blayd". And actually, it is as first used in the wrong spelling and it really confused me. No one edited this book or what? You do not need to speak Russian to see that there are two different spellings for one word!
Nope, nope, nope.
Btw, every book had so many people betraying Bratva; I'm sort of surprised there is anyone left. Or that they are not in jail, seeing that they are so many people just waiting to betray them for the right price tag.

“I think I might have seen pride in Dad’s eyes. Or maybe it was just a gleam of Why is my offspring so insane?”

I still find it strange that the Casnoffs simply knew everything. I wanted/waited for someone to be a traitor and was giving them information. (view spoiler)[I always thought that it was Cal because that would make sense and would explain a lot of things. But now, he is only a goood guy that stupidly dies without any good reason. The end regarding Elodie was laughable! I want Elodie from the first book.
I waited for L´occhio de Dio to appear and maybe them to work together? “Right. So no plans at all then?" Jenna frowned. "Other than rocking in the fetal position for a while?" "Yeah, I was thinking about taking one of those showers where you huddle in the corner fully clothed and cry," Archer offered.”
I want more Mercer/Cross! (view spoiler)[I love them together so much, but they actually did not have a lot of space as a couple on the page. I need more! (hide spoiler)]
I really liked this series and even this book. But the problem was that in this one you could really feel how much it was rushed! It needed a hundred more pages. Or another book because so much was stuffed together that I could not really enjoy all of it. There are so many questions! “I'm sure you're wondering why I've brought you here." I moved to the center of the room, my strappy sandals clacking on the marble floor. "I'm assuming this is where the punishment part comes in," I said. "So do I need to clean all these mirrors, or do I have to, like, stare at myself until I feel shamed or something?" Surprisingly, Dad gave a tiny smile. "No, nothing quite that abstract. I want you to break one of the mirrors." "Excuse me?" Dad leaned back against the now-drapeless window and folded his arms over his chest. "Break a mirror, Sophie." "What what, my head? Because I'm pretty sure that'd be corporal punishment, and Mom would not be cool with that." "With your powers." Ugh. I took in the dozens of mirrors and muttered, "I think I'd rather use my head.”
Which is still my favourite, :D I cannot help, I love Sophie's humour, and I love that her father has it as well. I sort of felt like reading it for the first time because I just wanted to scream "what!"

I don't even know where this book went wrong for me. I do not have many triggers points, this book definitely has a lot of those, but those were not an issue for me, except that I found the plot really annoying. Here is a little run down for you if you are interested. (view spoiler)[You get the girl sold off to a stranger. She sleeps with him right away. You get cheating. She gets kidnapped. She gets pseudo-raped. (Sorry, for calling it that but the author put so much emphasis on the fact that she actually liked it even when she hated it...) All that while pregnant. Then she gets slapped by her husband. Oh, and then the said husband leaves his wife because she did not fight the rape/not-rape. (hide spoiler)] I don't know where exactly to go with this. But the thing is, while I know many people who would hate those things and would consider them a deal-breaker in a book, it's not the point where the book went for me.
But the things that killed me were:
- Maxim's English was perfect but then suddenly turning into a caveman with broken English and don't start with me that he is Russian and speaking in a different language can be hard sometimes. It is hard, but you do not go from a speaking flawlessly to pre-school sentences. That's insulting and rather annoying even to read. - Sorry, was this supposed to be a breading fantasy? - I love a good mafia book/series, but please let the characters be really evil and not have the whole Bratva caring whether he's treating his wife right. - And I do not really know what else to say. Just that sometimes I had problems not to laugh aloud at a somewhat serious situation.
I almost forgot the most important thing. My Russian is not the best; I'm nowhere near fluent. But even I know that the author managed to butcher the bit of Russian that was included! And that made my blood boil! If you want a character speaking a different language in your book and it is a language you do not know then go and find someone who does speak said language. Because as far as I'm concerned the Russian was plucked straight out of Google Translator, and that is disappointing, to say the least....more

Well, I did not see this coming. I expected many things, but this book left me speechless. I liked the whole worldbuilding; characters were believable (can I already say that I love Ashwin (view spoiler)[Well, Ashwin 😉 (hide spoiler)]), it was amazing that it had the feel you get from YA books but the characters were actually older. That was absolutely great and very nice and refreshing change!
I loved the whole worldbuilding, different nations/cultures and I wanted more of it. The one thing this book is begging for is a map! Because I was sometimes lost, trying to imagine the location and I think the visual would really benefit this book.
I was really intrigued by the Aeriels; I wanted to know more!
Also, the fighting scenes? Awesome!
But unfortunately for me, the book was a bit up and down for me. Sometimes I could not wait for the next line, basically wanting to drown myself in the story but then on other times I had a feeling like it was dragging a bit and I found myself skimming through once or twice. But then "snap", and it's amazing once again. I am not sure if the pacing was a bit off for me. I kept thinking that maybe some chapters should be separated into two. Then, I was not really convinced by some dialogues, which did not always feel... believable? But it is not anything that cannot be repaired by more editing.
I kept thinking about a book I could compare this to and I came up short. This was one of the most original stories I've read in a very long time. So, great job!

I read it right after the A Court of Wings and Ruin, and there is no way of hiding the problems of this novella. (Is it even a novella? Yeah, it's very short considering SJM, but normally this would be a normal novel, right? It has over 200 pages.)
ACOFAS took all the things that I was personally annoyed by from the ACOTAR series and tried to make a book out of it. And things I loved? Were not there. Well, except for the writing that it's easy to read.
-There is no action! No fight, nothing! And after the battles from the last two books, it seemed sort of boring in a way? And yes, I do not consider a snowball war action.
-If you read my review for A Court of Wings and Ruin you know that I was unhappy about the ending. And this novella(?) is basically the ending of ACOWAR stretched over 200 pages.
-Let Rhys be mean again! I miss the High Lord of the Court Of Nightmares. He has to be at list a bit evil!
-Can someone kick Nesta out? She is getting on my nerves; she's worse than at the beginning of the series. And honestly? I cannot imagine getting through a book where she's the main character. And seeing that "problems with Illyrians" will probably be one of the key topics of her and Cassian's book. Honestly? Even less interested.
-Elain is doe-eyed and unnecessary. I'm more interested in Nuala and Cerridwen than in her. (view spoiler)[The whole Lucien/Azriel drama does not work! (hide spoiler)]
-I'm surprised, but I really like Varian. Did not see that coming at all.
-There is not much of a plot in this book actually.
-Feyre opening an art studio for kids? Cute and everything. But... I don't know. I sort of don't care?
-And for Tamlin. I never liked that guy. Not even in the first book. But honestly? This is getting ridiculous.

I have so much to say, so I just hope I won't forget. When the author offered me the book, I was not entirely sure whether I should accept. The blurb did not sound like something I would usually read, and I'm not exactly drawn in by the cover. I know, I'm vain when it comes to book cover. The thing is, the cover works very well with the story. But I'm still honestly going to say that this cover would not get me to read it. Which would be a shame! Because I really like this novel. And if you are in a market for a novel that is well written and is nothing you ever read, then pick up this one.
Whether she willed it or not, those memories were always the reality. As is life. As is death. Or the path that binds them.
The first thing I need to say is that the author's English is absolutely marvellous. She has an amazing way with the language. It is that great that I had to double check whether she is a native speaker or not. (She's not if you are wondering.) There are so many writers that are native speakers that should ask this author for help with English. The only problem I sort of had in this department was a huge overuse of ellipsis. I decided to ignore all of the ellipsis because a majority of them should have been replaced by periods. But the author said that she's working on removing them, so that should be resolved.
This is not a book you could just randomly open and read a bit and then close it. It is a bit harder to read, mostly due to a complicated story (in a good sense!). The author created a very complex world where you really have to pay attention to what is going on. It seems she took inspiration in Greek history/mythology or even language which worked brilliantly. Everything made sense, and I could not find anything that seemed strange or out of place.
If I had to describe the novel's writing style with one word it would probably be rich. As I already said, the author has a great way with words, but it sometimes created a situation where you need to re-read a sentence to make sure you understood correctly. But then that was the beauty of the novel. It is not an easy read, but it is an amazing read! Also be ready for a bit more "descriptive" style. Sometimes there are pages and pages without dialogue. Which from the beginning were a bit hard to get into but I would say that after three chapters I did not pay attention to any of this. I was just flying through the pages!
As for the characters... I usually don't like the main character. And I could not believe that I was actually liking Drynoe. She stands out from her group of friends which made me interested in her. Also, the conversations this group of friends have? Pretty hilarious! My second most favourite character would be probably Vryx. And for some reason, I cannot point out one character that I hated.
"I think honesty is my worst flaw,"

In all honesty, this would be a 4,5* from me, but since I enjoyed it reading so much, I'll round it up to five!
Not gonna lie, I love fashion as much as the next girl. So, this topic basically won me over before I knew anything about the book.
And as much as many of you know, I love the villains in most stories or the anti-heroes. Anya is just that, this story is told from the POV of the villain of the story. Or is she? Maybe all of them are villains?
Anyway, Anya is crazy, to say the least. And she wants to be Sarah's BFF, so, she fakes her way into the fashion magazine La Vie. (Ehm, Dan Humphrey much?)
"Fashion people never let you forget that you don't belong."
But being in is not enough. When Anya and Sarah start competing for a promotion, things go south, I mean, Sarah cannot be a BFF with her employee, right?
However, Sarah is not the only competition, no, no, no, there are interns who pity Anya, who want to be Sarah's BFF, Sarah's current BFF who is digging in Anya's past. So many people are standing in Anya's way.
"You know what they say—if you can't join them, beat them."
I did not expect this book to turn so... gruesome in a way. For some reason, I expected it to be more comedic without the bodies piling up. ¨
Everyone started at Anya like this:

I adore Ian; I always did, he was my favourite character. Thought that the way he was treated by his friends was uncalled for. Come on, they only had to ask, and he stood by them. But no, they stilled douted him.
“Did you think (view spoiler)[an exchange of blood and some vows (hide spoiler)] would change who I am? Nothing will...
Ha! I feel that this is a bit of a dig at people who worried that Ian wouldn't be the same! Pretty clever.
My main fear was that Ian wouldn't be the same wicked, vulgar Ian we got in the original series. Look at what happened to Vlad. I don't need a hero that is basically a doormat for the heroine. But, I'm surprised to say that actually, he remains the same. Mostly. For now.
But where I liked Veritas before and was actually excited for her to be the heroine, I'm not pretty disappointed. (view spoiler)[1) She's 4000 years old and suddenly behaving like a school girl. 2) I was really happy that she was the traditional "bombshell". I liked that she was small and tiny. And then, boom, her actual appearance is this curvy, statuesque woman. I'm a bit disappointed by that. It would be nice if the character was a bit different than what you usually get. And especially since I was given the promise of this tiny not traditionally sexy character. I really wanted that. So, yeah, I feel let down! 3) She started to feel a bit flat in terms of her character. Who is she? Why? I don't really get her. (hide spoiler)]

I love Stylo Fantome. I loved the Kane series, I was really surprised by the Mercenaries, and then The Bad Ones found its way among my all-time favourite books. But then it was a bit like hitting rock bottom with the Twin Estate which I did not even finish.
But I was excited about Church, it sounded great. Something a bit like The Bad Ones, I expected it to be great. And then... nothing happened. Where The Bad Ones went right, this went wrong.
To be honest, I still feel Church was supposed to be something like The Bad Ones, and I believe it may have worked. But the problem was that the characters were not fit for this. Where Dulcie was the big bad wolf, Emma was just... broken beyond repair and even her brilliant moments were so low I sort of wished it would just end.
You see when the book started I hated Margo, how anyone could be such a horrible mother but as the book progressed I found out that I was more indifferent towards her. Why? Because Emma was so... I don't have a word for it. I just don't like her character. I don't know why. I want to call her stupid. But really, she is not stupid. I want to call her weak. But really, she is not. I want to call her many things, but she is none of it. And there is the problem. She is insignificant. She has no real personality. She has nothing I could catch on and maybe like her for it or even despise her. I like characters I can hate. But there is nothing. I feel nothing for the characters which is a huge problem for me.
There are many things I could talk about that make no sense and were brushed off when they sure should have caused a huge problem. But I won't go there.
I liked Church or the promise of Church, but he did not live up to it. The same could be said about the whole book.
Though, I will read the second book just because the ending made a bit curious and I want to know what will happen next. Maybe this book is only suffering the fate of second books in trilogies. It is just filling, the set up for the real story.

The Mercenaries: Law - Okay, I love Law! And Love Damiano - wish there was a part just about those two. However, the story is split into two parts and does not really seem to work together because in the short length it does not make sense. However, I enjoyed this part. 4/5
Muckle Memory - I did not read that book, so I skipped this part.
Twin Estate - Okay, I should have skipped this part. I did not like this series. And I did not like this. These characters do not work for me. At all! And what Liam did in the end? Absolutely wrong! 1/5
While I Was Away - I did not read that book, so I skipped this part.
The Kane Series - oh, this was my first series from Stylo Fantome! I was really looking forward to this! We were teased about this story in Completion (The Kane Trilogy, #3.5). I really liked this, but I felt like several times it did not work with what we were told before. In Completion Tate said that while they were in Russia visiting Sanders, Jameson was angry with Sanders, not her. But here we were presented with a different story. Then there is the fact that Tate was (view spoiler)[pregnant and lost the baby (hide spoiler)] which I think does not work with what happened in Reception (The Kane Trilogy #4). (view spoiler)[Tate wanted to get Jameson's attention she said she was pregnant and he reacted really badly. If things from Checking In really happened, I do not believe she would be joking about it, and he would react that bad. (hide spoiler)] It seems a bit like the author forgot about these since things do not really add up. Or maybe a little confusion in the timeline. 3/5...more
