Recruiting soldiers

The army is a basic good. Without it, you won't get far, which is why the army can be recruited in several different ways.

First, as you explore the world, you may encounter troops who want to join you. They will be shown on the map as neutral troops of your faction. Unfortunately, before you interact with them, you cannot tell if the soldiers will join you or attack you.

The last and surest way to build up your military power is to hire armies in settlements that belong to you. All you have to do is select a trustee and interact with it at the village "town hall" or rally point, which is a small building that allows you to recruit soldiers from other settlements of your country. Some of the above ways to recruit come with a cost, of course. Most soldiers are hired with money. However, they need the right buildings to do so. Some stronger units also require special raw materials for recruitment.

With upgraded buildings, you can hire new units just as you could with basic. The only inconvenience is that if you have soldiers of the first level in your army, you cannot train them at the assembly point - you have to go to the settlement that has the appropriate structure.

On the other hand, if you have no use for a branch, you can remove it. Simply select the entity by right-clicking on its portrait in the upper left corner of the screen and confirm the removal with a green "tick".
