Last update: 22 May 2024

On this page of our guide, we prepared a list of the 8 main difficulty settings available in Songs of Conquest. You will learn about the main differences between them and their disadvantages or advantages. We also describe the Threat Level for every group of enemies you encounter.

How to adjust the difficulty level?

1 - Songs of Conquest: Difficulty levels and Threat Level - Basics - Songs of Conquest Guide
  1. You make the choice of the difficulty level every time before beginning a scenario or map.
  2. In the story campaign mode, the option appears at the scenario selection screen (screenshot above). It should be noted here that not all difficulty levels are available here - the lowest possible is Fair, while the highest is Overwhelming. You don't have to complete the whole campaign on the difficulty you set at the beginning. The mentioned screen appears after each completed mission; for the next scenario, you can lower it, for example.

  1. In the remaining game modes, the difficulty can be adjusted on the map settings screen (the one where you can look up the list of players). You can see computer icons next to AI opponents - we've highlighted an example of this in the screenshot. If you click on the icon, you can set the AI difficulty for the given combatant.
  2. You can separately change the difficulty level for every AI-controlled opponent. They can have different difficulty levels set.

List of difficulty levels

There are 8 main difficulty settings in Songs of Conquest. They differ in the multipliers of some parameters and what actions can AI perform and its limitations.

We recommend starting initial scenarios with Fair or Risky difficulty level - this will allow you to learn basic mechanics and 4 main factions with ease. At Fair, the AI is not completely passive and may even pose a challenge.

Enemy Threat Level

2 - Songs of Conquest: Difficulty levels and Threat Level - Basics - Songs of Conquest Guide
  1. A separate issue, independent from the set difficulty level, is the Threat Level of encountered enemies. It is based on a comparison between your army and the targeted hostile army. The more advantage you have (wielder's level, number of units) the lower the Threat Level will be.
  2. We recommend avoiding battles where Threat Level is of orange or red color (example in the screenshot). Going in despite the warnings produces a huge risk of losing the battle or a large portion of your army.
  3. If the enemy is stationary, return to it once your hero is levelled up and you've got more units. If it is a hostile wielder traveling the map, run away from them during your turn so there is no chance of initiating an unwanted fight.
