ninhydrin

a reagent used to detect AMINO ACIDS by the blue colour produced (yellow with proline). The quantity of the amino acid is proportional to the ABSORBANCE of the solution after reaction with ninhydrin. The technique can be used to detect amino acids on chromatograms, for example (see CHROMATOGRAPHY).
