Get ready for gamescom 2024: Celebrating the biggest community in the world! 🤝🎮❤ When the grand kick-off show ‘gamescom Opening Night Live’ begins on the evening of 20 August 2024, thousands of visitors on-site in the gamescom event arena in Cologne, Germany and millions of video game players online worldwide will once again witness the highlights of this year’s gamescom first-hand.  Just how strongly games connect people across all continents will be made clear not only in the opening show, but everywhere at the world’s largest games event with the theme of gamescom 2024:  🤝'𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’ 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒' 🎮 Games are more than pixels and controllers; they’re the most social medium of our time. Across continents, over 3 billion people engage in gaming, building entire worlds, testing their skills, and forming lifelong friendships. Games combat loneliness and isolation, fostering collaboration and creativity. Nowhere is this spirit more evident than at gamescom, where enthusiasts from around the world converge. From esports tournaments to retro games and new experiences like the cards & boards area and artist exhibits, gamescom unites a passionate and unique community. 🗳️ 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 Democracies face challenges globally, from disinformation to historical amnesia. Traditional educational campaigns often fall short, especially among younger generations. Games can help with these issues. Institutions like the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and memorials in Germany are leveraging games to communicate and defend democratic values. At this year’s gamescom congress, the theme “Games and Democracy” takes center stage, highlighting the vital role games play in shaping our world.    🚀 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 – 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Today’s most valuable companies compete for games like never before. Why? Because games unlock the latest technology. Gone are the days of small teams creating blockbusters in a few months. Now, hundreds of highly skilled professionals and budgets exceeding 100 million euros drive game development. Strategic positioning in the global game market is essential. Games aren’t just entertainment; they’re the gateway to our future. #gamescom #gamescom2024 #gamesindustry #gamingindustry Koelnmesse GmbH #gaming #videogames

  • Games for Change Festival 2024: A Catalyst for Global Change 🎮🌐 Last week, the 2024 Games for Change Festival took place in New York City, and we were honored to be part of the Video Games Europe delegation for this extraordinary event. Inspired by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, this year's festival focused on "The 2030 Marker: A Catalyst for Global Change." It was a phenomenal experience where global voices united to showcase how games and XR technologies can drive community engagement, social change, and innovation in sustainability, accessibility, health, and education. Our very own Velyana Richter represented game as part of the Video Games Europe delegation, alongside esteemed European colleagues Alberto Simonetti (IIDEA), Andreea Medvedovici Per (European Games Developer Federation (EGDF) & Romanian Game Developers Association), and Dominika Urbańska-Galanciak (SPiDOR). A heartfelt thank you to Tatiana Skliarenko, Manager of International Programmes, and Tania Hack, Senior Director of International Programs, for your fantastic support during the festival and to Susanna Pollack, President at Games for Change and Arana Shapiro, CPO for being our hosts. Your efforts made the experience smooth and enriching for Velyana and the entire delegation. Your commitment to fostering international collaboration is much appreciated. ❤ The Games for Change Festival highlighted the important role our industry can play in addressing global challenges. During the two days of the festival, the delegation experienced exciting talks, fireside chats, took part in speed-networking sessions and met many inspiring people from the industry, science, education and non-profit organisations, all working towards the goal of showing the outstanding potential of games and how they can change the world. In the two days leading up to the festival, the VGE delegation visited the Quest To Learn NYC, which uses innovative educational methods through games, took a trip to the United Nations headquarters to learn more about their Sustainable Development Goals, and a visit to the NYU Create Lab to attend a presentation on the new research project RITEC (by UNICEF), which focuses on how video games can promote children's well-being. Thank you to everyone who made this event so memorable. We look forward to continuing these important discussions and contributing to a sustainable and inclusive future through games. 🎮💚 #GamesForChange #G4C2024 #G4C #gamesindustry #gamingindustry #sustainability #gamification

  • 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 🎮🕹 Smartphones continue to reign supreme as the most popular platform for video games in Germany! 📱🎮 In 2023, an impressive 22.7 million Germans played games on their phones, holding steady from 2022's 22.8 million. Key insights from our latest report, based on data from Consumer Panel Services GfK: 📱 Mobile gaming: 24.6 million people play on smartphones, tablets, or both, with tablets attracting 10 million players despite a slight decline. 💻 PC gaming: For the first time since 2019, PC gaming saw a resurgence, growing by 600,000 players to 13.5 million. 🎮 Console gaming: Consoles remain the second most popular platform with 18.7 million players, showing a slight decrease after years of growth. 🔄 Multi-Platform play: A significant 18.3 million gamers enjoy gaming across multiple platforms. Felix Falk, Managing Director of game, notes: “The types of platforms video game players use are as diverse as the games they play and the community they are part of. Smartphones, as a particularly accessible platform, remain as popular as ever, and interest in PCs is growing again, as well. But the majority of players no longer limit themselves to a single platform, and the lines between the individual platforms are increasingly blurred. This development is evident in trends like cross-platform play, which is extremely common these days, as well as the consistent growth in cloud gaming services that make it possible to play PC and console games on mobile devices.” #gamesindustry #gamingindustry #mobilegaming #pcgaming #gaming GfK - An NIQ Company
