midkine

A retinoic acid-responsive, heparin-binding growth factor encoded by MDK on chromosome 11p11.2, which is expressed by various cell types during embryogenesis. It promotes angiogenesis, cell growth, and cell migration.

Molecular pathology
Midkine is expressed in various malignances (e.g., Wilm’s tumour and neuroblastomas), suggesting a role tumour development, perhaps through angiogenesis.
