Fused Shadelings are hostile Creatures exclusive to Don't Starve Together, added in the From Beyond updates. They have 1250 health, deal 40 physical damage and 10 planar damage (for a total of 50 damage per hit) and have Planar Entity Protection.

Brain Behavior[]

Fused Shadelings spawn from the Shadow Rifts. At the first stage of the rift, there can be a maximum of 1; at the second stage, up to 3; and at the third, up to 5.

They attack anything that gets close to the rift, and stops attacking if the target moves far away from the rift.

Fused Shadelings, in addition to the normal attack, can jump on the player from far away. This jump does not deal any damage. After hitting the shadelings, they may disappear like insanity monsters, and reappear nearby, leaving behind their tail. The tail will explode, dealing damage.

Upon death, they will drop 2 Pure Horrors, as well as an additional 2 pure horrors with a 75% and 50% chance. In addition, after they die, the tail will drop to the ground, and become a Dread Mite, which will follow the player at a quick pace (you need at least a Walking Cane to outrun it, or run far away before the tail becomes a Dread Mite), and then explode, summoning three more of the exploding balls. They will respawn again after a certain amount of time, which depends on the stage of growth of the Rift:

  • 4 minutes in the first stage;
  • 2 minutes in the second stage;
  • 1 minute in the third stage.

As Fused Shadelings have planar entity protection, physical damage hits are less effective against them. For example, a Brightshade Sword will deal 28.82 physical damage and 33 planar damage to a Fused Shadeling instead of 38 and 33 respectively.

Note however, that the planar entity protection only protects against physical damage. Thus, damage from Fire, Food or etc will not be affected by planar entity protection.

Dread Mite[]

That is one persistent tail.

Maxwell, when examining Shadowcraft Plinth.

The Dread Mite is a Mob that appears after the death of the Fused Shadeling. It will chase the target for 4 seconds before exploding, dealing 50 normal damage and 20 Planar Damage. The explosion does not damage Shadow Creatures. In addition, upon death, it will leave three more exploding balls that will immediately explode, dealing similar damage.
