derepression of Hmx1 expression.
It has been reported that Hdac3 was required for transcriptional activation of retinoic acid response element.[26] Cells derived from Hdac3 knockout mice displayed both downregulation and upregulation of gene expression.[27] Furthermore, gene expression profiling studies comparing the cells treated with HDAC inhibitors versus those untreated revealed that the number of genes downregulated were comparable to those upregulated.[28] One possibility is that Hdac3 may prohibit transcription of transcriptional repressors, leading to
derepression of gene expression.
