Delpino, Federico

 

Born Dec. 17, 1833, in Chiavari; died May 14, 1905, in Naples. Italian botanist.

Delpino was a professor at the universities of Genoa (from 1876), Bologna (from 1884), and Naples (from 1893). His principal works dealt with the ecology (the biology of flowers and methods of pollination) and the morphology of plants (the theory of phyllotaxy). Delpino was one of the founders of the ecological geography of plants.
