FX:Galaxy, also known as the FXmod, is a long-term modification project for the Homeworld series that aims to tell the story of the franchise's eight main races in one game. Started back in 2003, FX:Galaxy continues the legacy of its HW2C predecessor while at the same time tapping into the new modding possibilities that came with the 2015 Remaster.
Our goal is to recreate the raw excitement vibe of the original 1999 game in the remaster. At the same time we seek to polish, enhance and expand on the regular Homeworld experience, and do many new things that push the boundaries of the Homeworld engine - all while paying close attention to the lore, and making sure the game still is (and feels) 'Homeworld'. A lot has been said about HW3, and a lot of thought has been given to the topic of the future of the FXmod. Today I bring you the answer, and a final gift related to the Shimmering Path.
After weighing the modding tools and potential of HW3, we have decided that the FXmod will continue to be developed on Homeworld3.
One of the main reasons for this is that we had already hit the limits of what we can do on the HWRM engine. We hit the memory limit (no more races), had to write many additional scripts to get everything to work, and old issues from the HW2C days (Out of Sync) prevented us from truly delivering on the Multiplayer aspect of our mod. So, while we think that we were able to add a lot for the Single-Player fans, such as the Shimmering Path and new mini-campaigns, we are sorry for those that were hoping for a more sustained Multiplayer environment like in the HW2C days of the mod, when it was still called FX:Commander. In the end, we just couldn't get it to work.
To thank everyone for all the support, messages and more over the years, we have prepared one final gift for you: We will show you how to manually unlock all stages of The Shimmering Path, so that you can also see the Hall of Fame, play any missions you didn't get to, and of course try out the bonus (EX) stages. These stages have unique scenarios and maps, that are not used anywhere else in the mod. We hope that you will enjoy them!
To unlock all Shimmering Path stages, first navigate to this folder:

Save and exit. The next time you launch the FXmod, scroll to the bottom of the Shimmering Path to see the new stages!

Modding HWRM was a journey with ups and downs. But the support of the players made us do our best, and encouraged us to push the limits of the engine as we sought to provide a memorable gameplay experience.
With FX v1.39, the most complete and stable build that we have ever released, we know that we have left the FXmod for HWRM in a good place for those who will not be making the jump to HW3 and will be sticking to HWRM.
For the next few months we will be thinking about what shape the FXmod should take in HW3, and in what direction we want to take the project as we study the new possibilities.

Any chance of somtaaw or beast factions being introduced into the mix one day? I'd love to see cataclysm races rebalanced to function in skirmishes/MP against these other races
Hi - there currently are no plans for the Somtaaw and Beast to be added as fully playable. We are already pushing the engine with the currect 8 factions as is, sadly.
JUST got into Homeworld today thanks to the Steam sale. I really enjoy space RTS games. Really dying for something akin to EVE Online but as a lighter, single player RPG. Played this mod thanks to Steam Workshop and It's really solid! You've done a great job with this. I'm excited to see the RPG addition you've got planned in the future!

By far my favourite mod for remastered, my only complaint is that I nearly had a heart attack fighting the Turanics, when I hovered over one of their resource collectors and read the name. For a second there I thought it was the actual Junkyard Dog from HW1.
In FX there's the idea that the TUR started colonizing worlds, and to meet their needs they just salvage and use whatever they can get, being space pirates and all. This is also the setting of their mini-campaign. It may be why you see re-engineered units like the JJ Dogs, or crude units like the Vulcan Frigates.
Huge performance issue, this game barely use 10% of my CPU/GPU and it only render 15FPS, please make it use more hardware and draw more FPS.

Were you playing a match with lots of different races and large fleets on max. settings? Homeworld Remastered has a hardcapped GPU memory limit of ~2.5GB, performance drops are expected as you approach this limit.
I was playing a 8 players map with 7 AI, after checking with MSI Afterburner I guess yes, the game reached that stupid 2.5GB cap, is there a way to remove the cap or to change it?
Unfortunately there isn't, as far as I'm aware. The Remaster uses a tweaked version of the old HW2 engine (2006), and has inherited its many of its flaws and limitations.
What you can try is to save>load the game / restart HWRM. It is notorious for frame drops if left running for a long period of time.
If that didn't help you probably hit the hardcap. In that case, the best I can do is recommend you to play with a lower selection of races (e.g. 2+ players using the same faction = less to load), stick to max. 6p matches and the default unit cap, and/or tone down the texture quality/size limit.
The base game will work fine, but once you get to adding stuff (mods) the harsh reality is that the game is not very supportive of giant endgame space battles.
