General Weapons
Machete
The machete lets you dispatch a merc without making too much noise. You'll need to sacrifice one of your weapon slots to carry one, but a machete comes in handy when attempting stealth. The machete also lets you sprint faster than with any other weapon.
Jungle Falcon
You'll get the pistol early in the first training mission. Although you pick up a stronger weapon shortly thereafter, the pistol can still dish out respectable amounts of damage when cornered. Plus, a well-aimed shot can relieve an unsuspecting merc of his precious brain matter. Aim high.
M4 Carbine
This is your standard assault rifle. The M4 Carbine will be your best friend for the first handful of missions. It features a fast fire rate and offers reasonable accuracy over short to medium distances. You'll need to use the M4 Carbine as a poor man's sniper rifle until you find the real deal.
AW50 Sniper Rifle
The AW50 Sniper Rifle comes packed with a snazzy scope capable of zooming in on a merc's head from great distances. Most merc's will fall with a single shot from this baby. The Sniper Rifle's catastrophic damage output is balanced by its slow reload time and slow refire rate.
Jackhammer Shotgun
This is one truly wicked gun. Everyone loves shotguns in FPS shooters, and Far Cry's semi-automatic beauty will rip just about anything to bloody shreds. The Jackhammer Shotgun is ideal for laying the smack down in tight spaces. The refire rate lets you massacre multiple targets with ease.
AG36 Assault Rifle
The AG36 is a beefed up assault rifle with a party-crashing grenade launcher. The launcher hurls grenades over long distances -- perfect for smashing a small encampment full of baddies. The assault rifle is best suited for mid-range encounters.
OICW Advanced Assault Rifle
The most sophisticated assault rifle in the game. Comes packed with an integrated scope and flat trajectory HE munitions. Probably your best bet when engaging scores of enemies in mid to long range gun battles. You can also upgrade this bad boy with nightvision.
M249 SAW MG
The M249 spits out lead faster than most weapons in its class. It suffers from piss-poor accuracy but still manages to cut down enemies with ease, especially at short range.
P90 SMG
This weapon spews burning lead at a pretty decent rate and doesn't carry a huge accuracy penalty. The P90 features brief loading times, making it an above average weapon for close quarters combat. Fairly accurate from short to medium range distances.
MP5 SMG
The only upside to the MP5 is the inclusion of a silencer, making it ideal for stealth kills. Otherwise, it's just a less accurate version of the P90.
Rocket Launcher
The rocket launcher is tougher to use in Far Cry than in most games. Still, it deals massive amounts of damage and is capable of demolishing targets from great distances. The rocket launcher is best used against helicopters, gunboats, and other vehicles.
Frag Grenades
Your standard issue grenade. Good for killing grouped mercs, vehicles, and the odd sheep. Also great for demonstrating Far Cry's rad physics engine.
Flashbang Grenades
These grenades distract enemies with smoke and noise. That's about it.
Smoke Grenades
Smoke grenades spew clouds of smoke, obscuring the vision of an enemy. Players can chuck a whole bunch of these and hide in the smoke or retreat without getting shot in the back.
Mounted Weapons
Mortar
The Mortar launches explosive rounds at long range. Best used against groups of enemies, gunboats or other targets in need of exploding. The downside: Once an enemy gets too close, you'll have to ditch the Mortor and take him out with small arms.
Vulcan Minigun
These babies can rip through a small army of enemies. In fact, you'll probably do just that several times in this game. The Minigun lacks decent accuracy, but it spits out bullets faster than any other gun. Use it against anything that moves. The downside: most stationary miniguns lack sufficient cover, so you're an easy target when using them.
