Basics
Weapon Management
You can carry a maximum of four weapons in Far Cry. While there exist a total of 16 weapons in the entire game, thoughtful management can help you make the most out of lugging only four of them at a time.
- As you can only carry four weapons at a time, you'll need to choose carefully what weapons you'll want on you at any given time. For example, you probably want to ditch the Rocket Launcher for the JackHammer Shotgun when sneaking around a cramped bunker.
- Sprint speed varies according to whatever weapon you're currently holding, so brandish the Machete when in need of extra speed.
- Reload. Reload. Reload. Sounds obvious, but Far Cry is one unforgiving game. Reload often and always under the cover of foliage, boulders, tables, etc.
- Always gather ammo from slain enemies. Again, sounds a little obvious. But the last thing you'll want is to be stuck hiding from a horde of bloodthirsty mercs with only 5 bullets left.
- Regardless of situation, it's always a good idea to have the AW50 Sniper Rifle in your inventory. There are way too many delicious sniping opportunities in Far Cry to leave this baby at home.
- Vehicles dot the landscape in Far Cry. Most of them carry either the Vulcan Minigun or Mortar. Conserve your precious ammo by gunning down mercs with vehicle-mounted weapons whenever possible.
- You'll often come across stationary minigun gun "stations." Take control of them and lay waste to your foes with ease.
- Use Flash Grenades and Smoke Grenades for cover or to make a quick dash out of harms way.

Combat Techniques
The landscapes in Far Cry seemingly stretch forever, so there's always more than one way to approach any situation. Still, the combat in Far Cry basically boils down to a choice between stealth and all-out action.
- First of all, stealth is a viable option for many situations in Far Cry. While you can't avoid all-out gun fights, using stealth can help you gain the upper hand by letting you choose when and where a fight will break out.
- If you're trying to be sneaky, for Pete's sake be quiet! Nothing will alert a merc like the sound of gunfire. Yet the sound of rustling bushes, knocked over soda cans and hasty footsteps can also pique the interest of wary mercs.
- It's possible to sneak past a ravenous pack of mercs simply by ducking behind foliage and timing when you walk.
- Sometimes, you'll need to make a distance kill only to remember you left your AW50 Sniper Rifle on your nightstand. While nothing can really replace it, you can still shoot somewhat accurately when crouching with your trusty M4 Carbine. Switch to single-fire for added accuracy.
- Aim high. You can drop most mercs with a few well-placed shots to the face.
- Whenever possible, shoot from behind foliage or other means of concealment.
- Toss grenades inside cramped rooms filled with mercs. The ensuing explosion paints the walls in beautiful red hues.
- Most weapons in Far Cry have decent firing ranges. Start gunfights at a distance whenever possible.
- Use explosive barrels whenever possible. Not only will well-timed barrel explosions kill multiple mercs, but mercs surviving the explosion will be thrown into momentary chaos.
- You can sometimes release rolling barrels into camps and settlements; this will distract nearby enemies and afford you sneaking opportunities.
- Use vehicles to make instant road kill out of your enemies.
