How to Use the Chimera Core
Outside of the all-new Relic Skill Tree, the Chimera Core is arguably the most important upgrade you get during the early portion of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.
Defeating a Blackwall-powered chimera is no easy task—but should you take it, and what is it used for?

How to Use the Chimera Core in Phantom Liberty
After defeating the Chimera mech with Myers at the end of Spider and the Fly, you'll get the optional objective of picking up the Chimera Core on the floor.
The Chimera Core has two uses. The first and more practical usage is to create one of the four Tier 5 Iconic weapon mods:
- Firecracker (Power Weapon Mod): Shoots explosive rounds.
- Wallpuncher (Tech Weapon Mod): Allows you to charge a weapon to 200% capacity without increasing charge time and +100 armor penetrations.
- Hacktomy (Smart Weapon Mod): +5% chance to apply a quickhack effect. Effect type depends on the body part hit.
- Severance (Melee Weapon Mod): When an enemy is below 50% health, each hit to their head or limbs has a 20% chance to dismember.
Keep in mind that you can only create one of these weapon mods, as their required crafting material consists of only the Chimera Core.
- Most Iconic Weapons cannot use mods, so take that into consideration as well.
The alternative use of the Chimera Core is to simply put it as a decoration inside V's original apartment.
Unfortunately, like many unique items you can acquire in Cyberpunk 2077, you can only place the core on the side table in this apartment and not the other ones you can purchase in Night City.
Should You Take the Chimera Core
Yes, absolutely. There is no reason not to take the core, even if it is listed as an optional objective during the mission.
A possible reason the game listed it as an optional thing to do is to highlight the core, as it is easily missable otherwise.
