Nurse admits she only bathes her kids once per week to protect their 'bodily autonomy'

A nurse admitted she only bathes her four children once a week, at most.

In an episode of the Him and Her podcast by Lauryn Bosstick, the creator of The Skinny Confidential, a blog, book, podcast and YouTube channel, got real with holistic nurse practitioner Veronica Max about how much she bathes her children.

'My children probably bathe maybe once a week,' Max told Bosstick on the podcast episode.

Bosstick's husband and co-host Michael Bosstick admitted that they too have gotten backlash for their admission of 'delayed bathing' for both of their children, or the practice of waiting an extended period of time (more than 24 hours, according to WHO) to wash a newborn after birth to maintain body temperature and prevent hypothermia.

Max couldn't have agreed more, rhetorically asking 'Why would you need to bathe them? Why are they dirty?'

The nurse practitioner said her priority with her children is having them recognize their autonomy and make their own decisions.

'I just let my kids do what they want to do,' said Max. 'I have four children. I'm not going to fight with my kids over little stupid things like bathing.'

Max's children are nine (almost ten), seven, five, and two years old.

The mother of four doubled down on her choice, admitting that sometimes she bathes them less than once a week.

'We have a pool so they swim in the summer, so I guess we call that bathing, so it's probably even less than that,' she said.

'Our kids have autonomy over their bodies and their rooms, and they can make all the choices around that, assuming they're safe.'

The comment section erupted in disgust, with users claiming Max didn't want to parent or that she was not teaching her children how to take care of themselves.

'Missing a day is one thing, but showering only once a week….girl just say you don’t want to parent,' said one user.

'It’s so important to get the chlorine off their skin and hair!' said another.

Some users argued that young children need to be taught structure first before they can make their own schedules.

'Cries in teacher - children need routines, rules, and boundaries….and to be clean lol PLEASE,' commented a user.

So your kids will never be used to routine. Imagine something like HS sports. They are going to hate those schedules if they play sports,' chimed another.
