The War of the Three Sisters is an ancient war between the Three Sisters who ruled the Freljord Crest icon Freljord at the time: Avarosa, Serylda and Lissandra Lissandra. The war ends with the emergence of the Watchers under the Howling Abyss, the birth of the first Voidborn and the entombment of the Watchers within the Howling Abyss.

8000 BN — War of the Three Sisters

After they defeated the old gods of the north, a feud developed between the sisters Avarosa, Serylda, and Lissandra Lissandra, and quickly escalated into open conflict. The final battle was fought at the gates of Lissandra's citadel, where she sacrificed many allies to entomb her enemies in True Ice. [1]

History[]

Not long after uniting all of the Freljord, Lissandra Lissandra and her sisters start feuding with each other over the future of their new empire. Lissandra's sisters, Avarosa and Serylda, began growing displeased with her arrangement with her otherwordly masters, believing servitude to them was a 'fate worse than death' and feeling the negative effects of their influence on their land, as the sky became darker and the winds colder. These mortal tribes of Iceborn, who had once foraged together as one, waged war over this argument. In the final days of their conflicts, Serylda and Avarosa gathered their armies and marched on the Frostguard Citadel to resist serving the Watchers that Lissandra had pledged them all to.

The armies sieged the Frostguard Citadel, facing Lissandra Lissandra and her allies at the bridge of the Howling Abyss. At the same time of this battle, the Watchers began to materialize in the Freljord from the Howling Abyss, causing chaos to ensue as these horiffic, eldritch horrors finally reached into the physical realm. Lissandra Lissandra, realizing the awful mistake she had made, did the unthinkable as a last ditch effort to stop the Watchers from fully materializing. She drained the Yetis of their magic, regressing them back to their feral state, and sacrificed her sisters and the armies they gathered upon the Howling Abyss to enact a ritual to entomb the Watchers in True Ice, succeeding in imprisoning them halfway between The Void and physical realm.

Aftermath[]

  • Lissandra Lissandra sets about removing history of the frozen Watchers from the world. She secretly remains in power over the Frostguard until the present day.
  • The Yetis, alongside Gnar Gnar, are caught in the cataclysm unleashed by Lissandra. This froze Gnar in True Ice and decimated the Yeti civilization, robbing them of their magic and causing the survivors to go feral.
  • In the chaos, before the Watchers were entombed, they were able craft the first voidborn prototypes within the physical realm. One of these prototypes was Vel'Koz Vel'Koz.
  • While the Watchers were successfully imprisoned, it is only a temporary solution. The True Ice that defends the Freljord from the emptiness of the Void is insufficient to hold them back for a long period of time.
