  • Syndra's voice actress is uncredited and anonymous.
  • Syndra was designed by Andrei 'Meddler' van Roon.[1]
  • During development, she was called Darksov, Dark Sovereign or Sym.[2]
  • The visual effects designer for Syndra's log-in screen was Anthony Possobon.
  • Syndra was originally named 'Cyndra' but Riot felt the Syndra fit better.[3]

Syndra, The Dark Sovereign Syndra, The Dark Sovereign

  • Syndra's parents were not magical, but she doesn't know too much of her family history.
  • She's essentially attuned to the flows of magic - she can manifest force just by willing it, and she condenses spheres of raw magic from the air. She doesn't fully understand her talents, and up until now, she hasn't cared about their source. If she wants to realize her full potential, she'll have to understand herself.[4]
  • Syndra leaches the magic in the environment, ripping out the essence and causing it to fade away.  It can likely be attributed to her washing away the natural magics with her own raw spirit magic.
    • The ghost-willow in her lore did not have its magic stolen by Syndra.
      • Syndra's magic is attuned to her emotional state, when intensely negative it became very destructive.
  • Based on her lore, she was around her early 20s when she was put in The Dreaming Pool.  Centuries have passed since her sealing (as the Fortress itself has stood for centuries and was built around the temple after it was destroyed.)
  • Her headpiece is Ionian in nature, but unlike the crests that other Ionian characters keep behind them, Syndra placed hers front and center, emblematic of her rejection of restraint.
    • It is unclear if this remains relevant in her new lore.
  • The word "sovereign" in Syndra's title has a number of meanings. Her story is about asserting control over things that were held from her—her own fate, her magical ability, and her current home and fortress. Sovereign also implies a degree of supremacy, which she believes she has due of her power and her position in the world, literally and symbolically.[5]

  • Though their paths have been different, Zed Zed and Syndra have similar goals. Both believe the 'balance' that has maintained Ionia for so long must crumble for Ionia's people to come into their own and realize their full potential. Syndra might take interest in Zed's power, and given the right circumstances, an alliance between the two could "tip the scales" in Ionia all the more.
  • Due to working for the Ionian Elders, Irelia Irelia is Syndra's rival.
    • Being an Elder herself, Karma Karma is considered a rival as well.
  • Syndra sympathizes with Xerath Xerath and is intrigued by the power he's obtained, but Xerath would possibly be more interested in her. All of his power is arcane, researched and developed, while Syndra is more instinctive, her approach may succeed at unbinding him where his has failed.
  • She is intrigued by Annie Annie and how a child obtained such powers.
  • Syndra probably thinks Veigar Veigar is kind of laughable. If she got past the cutesy yordle exterior, she might see him as a worthy mage.

Gameplay

Main article: Syndra (League of Legends)
  • Syndra is the only champion to directly manipulate minions and neutral monsters to deal damage to other champions, moving them around with her abilities.
  • Syndra's spheres appear as red instead of blue when on the opposing team. She is the fourth champion to have team perspective based particles, with the third being Draven Draven, the second being Cassiopeia Cassiopeia and the first being Singed Singed.
    • On her Atlantean and Snow Day skins, they appear purple to enemy instead.
  • Using Syndra's Syndra's Force of Will Force of Will to hit an enemy unit with the Red Brambleback Red Brambleback will apply the debuff on them. Also, if Syndra throws the Blue Sentinel Blue Sentinel, she will be refunded 10 mana and the ability's cooldown will be lowered by 1 second.
  • Syndra is the third of the dark-themed Ionian Champions. The first two being Shen Shen & Varus Varus, followed by Zed Zed, Jhin Jhin, Xayah Xayah, & Kayn Kayn.
  • Syndra's imprisonment under the Dream Pool shares some similarities with the Arthurian lore about Lady of the Lake; though Syndra herself is the prisoner, not the jailer.
  • Syndra's dance references the choreography for the song Hoot by Girls' Generation (소녀시대: So Nyeo Shi Dae), a popular Korean girl group.
    • A side-by-side comparison can be seen here.
  • Syndra was the third champion to have a difficulty rating of 100, the first being Cassiopeia Cassiopeia, the second being Orianna Orianna, and the fourth being Draven Draven. However, her difficulty rating has since fallen to 80. On release, her difficulty rating was 90.
  • Each of Syndra's abilities gain new graphical details when leveled to max rank. For details, see below in her Skin section.
  • Syndra is the second champion speculated to be omnipotent, or nearly so. The first one was Xerath.
  • As seen in this video, Syndra appears to be able to use the balls from another Syndra.
  • The fact that Syndra's Syndra's Unleashed Power Unleashed Power can use up to seven balls is possibly a reference to the Dragon Ball franchise as there are seven Dragon Balls.
  • Syndra is the second of three dark themed champions to have a light themed skin, with Varus Varus being the first and Aatrox Aatrox being the third.
  • Syndra apparently derives from Proto-Germanic *sundraz ("of/by/for one self"; whence English sunder),[6] with possible influence from unrelated Greek συνδρομή syndrome.[7]
    • Her brother's name, Evard, likewise combines two Germanic elements īhwaz "yew" & wardaz "guard".[8]

Syndra, the Dark Sovereign Syndra, the Dark Sovereign
  • One of Syndra's jokes (▶️  "And they said I lacked balance. Ha!") is a triple entendre.
    • The primary play on words is regarding her lore where she was deemed mentally unbalanced by her Ionian elders, as balance (mental fortitude) is a defining virtue in Ionian culture, and she therefore treads on her dark spheres to prove that she "has (physical) balance".
    • The third play on words is a meta-reference to her own champion balance; Syndra was reportedly one of the most overpowered champions during development, at the time.

Justicar Syndra Justicar Syndra
  • It is possibly a version of Syndra from an alternate history, where she instead embraced her elders' teaching and became a force for good. This theory is based on her warmer color scheme, use of white feathers and golden spheres. Her helmet also resembles the sun, a symbol of divinity, and her spheres contain images that resemble a "Mantle of Decorum."
  • The word "Justicar" means "man of justice" i.e. a judge.

  • Coven Syndra was originally planned for release in patch 13.20 on October 11, 2023, but was delayed to patch 13.21 on October 25 due to player feedback and dissatisfaction with the initial skin model. Changes made to the model included:
    • Hair color: Syndra's magenta hair was changed to a platinum blonde color to better match previous Coven skins.
    • Spheres: Her spheres, initially resembling crushed crow feathers, were updated to a new texture, now featuring eyes inside runic symbols.
    • Headdress: Her headdress was tweaked for a more symmetrical design, and its feathers, which previously obscured her face, were removed.
    • Sigil: A runic sigil was added behind her head to match the splash art; the initial model lacked this feature.
  • Changes were made to the skin's splash art and icon to match the updated hair color, spheres, and headdress design.
