Darkness... My body hurts! Or is it my brain? The explosion! I remember it now. Maybe I'm in a coma? Or even worst, I may be already dead... Everything is so confusing... Zombies, monsters and ghosts from the past are filling my mind... Oh God, so many memories mixed with my dreams! I can't even distinguish them anymore. What if my entire life was just a nightmare? But it felt so real... Wait, what's that sweet voice? Sounds like a nurse! THAT is part of reality, I am sure. Now if I could just concentrate on this voice and try to wake up...

No clear objective and confusing maps

Well, that scaled quickly.

An excellent mod. The truth is that I had never enjoyed so much with a mod like this.

approved, but lacked many things

One of the most classic horror mods ever made for Half-Life; it was enough to get IGN's attention.

They hunger is a horror total conversion mod for the first Half-Life and it's one of the best mod i play.
Yes, it's old, the chapters of the mod were released between 1999 and 2001. Most 3D models are very, very amateur. Dubbing is not great but pretty funny. The story is cliché but it's one of the strengths of the mod.
With everything i’ve just written, it’s not too convincing but even with these flaws, this mod remains a must-play.
The mod takes place in the 1950s and it feels like an old horror movie. And that’s why i love this mod, for its vibe.

an amazing spoopy classic

The time was not fair with this amazing mod, now is almost forgotten and was amazing see a mod ¡¡¡with 3 CHAPTERS!! (They Hunger was before RE REVELATIONS 2).
Exist a HD version, but removes the crosshair (can be fix, don't worry) and im noticed than the handgun can reload infinite times, even with full ammo.
Anyway, this mod is a prof than even with a limited engine the imagination is unlimited.

A very good mod, but arguably the quality of work degrades each episode a little more than the last... kinda disappointing really, because the map design is pretty good. It's the skinning jobs that really start to go down the toilet in my opinion- you almost have to pretend they're not as bad as they are. The worst I think being the farmer zombie with the Team Fortress Classic engineer face- looks like a big fat pink thing with a human head glued onto it. That and between the Taurus and G36, the arm skins are uglier than I could've ever imagined. Somebody from the team really should've went back and redone those before or post-release.

Having said that, it's a fun mod to play, and gets better with additional skins added to cover up the flaws like unskinned Half-Life enemies and ugly skin-jobs. The work that went into the mod is very good, but unfortunately not universally. Some things leave a lot to be desired in my opinion, like they were rushed or lazy. BUT, all things considered, it's easily worthy of the title it earned. It's a must-play mod.
