SourceForts is a Half Life 2: Deathmatch mod where Combine and Rebels face off in capture-the-flag action with a big twist. Players build bases and other structures with blocks and plates in the "build phase" to protect themselves and their team's flag (which is actually a ball), and then fight it out and try to capture the enemy's flag in the "combat phase". Once the combat phase has ended, it's back to build, where players can repair, improve, and change their creations to ready them for the next combat phase.
The next planned major version will introduce an entirely new style of play. The most major change is the removal of the build phase, and the introduction of capture points to the existing CTF formula. Building will still remain an essential part of the game, for the team that does not build will surely lose. As is planned, a new art style, new maps, and new models will be added as the next major release progresses.

Since valve didn't likely optimize their game engine, modders would have to do so for their mod that runs on the basis of the game.
Last I played, modular combat used the orange box source, but still lags the crap out of me even when the gameplay and graphical settings is possible for my laptop. It might be map related because Source engine smoke and light effects can be super sluggish (btw i HATE hl2 ep1 fire).
For some reason, whenever I start my own server the game crashes.
