Empires, the award winning Half-Life 2 mod, combines the best of the first person shooter and real-time strategy genres. Fight as either the Northern Faction, remnants of the fallen nation of Jekotia, or as the imperial Brenodi Empire. Empires features:
Four infantry classes
Prepare a surprise attack as the scout or take the enemy head-on as the rifleman. Drive back enemy tanks as the grenadier or support your team as the engineer. With four different infantry classes, each with customizable skills, you can create the perfect class to fit your playing style.
Squad-Based Teamwork
Players can organize themselves into highly-effective squads, overwhelming their opponents with superior tactics. Squad leaders can not only direct their respective members, but also use special squad powers such as reviving dead squad members or calling down an artillery strike on the enemy.
Vehicle Combat
Whether you're ferrying troops around the battlefield with the Armored Personnel Carrier or reigning fire upon your foes with the Artillery tank, Empires features a variety of vehicular combat. Choose from six different vehicle types, including three levels of tanks, and customize your weapons, armor, and engines.
Real-Time Strategy Commander
For those more inclined to RTS gameplay, you can play as the commander. Place buildings, build defensive turrets, construct vehicles, and conduct research on your way to leading your team to victory.

Fixed an issue causing degreesSlow/degreesFast vehicle handling variables to be overridden by hard-coded values. (There shouldn’t be any issues caused by fixing this as script values have been adjusted to match)
RPG now uses a different 3rd person reload animation as there was no RPG animation available. (Uses HL2’s AR2 reload as it is the closest visual fit)
Fixed an issue with accuracy upgrade not using the script value when adjusting weapon base spread. (It was hard-coded to 25%, this will now use “AccuracyUpgradeModifier” script variable)
For most weapons this will be a small nerf to accuracy but as always any issues identified will be addressed in future updates.

i always wanted to be a small chance(not on every game) that in mid game to start a combine invasion, and each human team to fight for survival or take the opportunity to eradicate the other team.imagine portal's opening around the map and combine dropship to enter, striders to anihilate tanks. if some one could made a map like that...
Tried the tutorial level after the update (Create server, map emp_tutorial)...it still crashes.
Rushing into battle without training makes new players easy prey.
BTW, how can I bring out the console in Empires?
There are no more Keyboard advanced options.
Empires mod is my favourite mod of all time. With a seamless combination of fps and rts, its definitly something that you should try out. It has always been highly rated, coming in the top 10 of moddb's mod of the year awards with the 2.0 release.
Since then there have been numerous additions and balances to make the gameplay refreshing while also updating the graphics.

working bots no(like brains) but bots to stand and take hits i think yes. but you must look for the commands to add them.

Damn I wish I could see this game revived back to it's former glory of masses of people playing. It was and still is such a great mod.

I used to love this mod, hope it goes standalone like natural selection did.
It sort of is standalone because it no longer requires Half-Life 2 to play.
I finally figured out how to fix the crash :D
Which one? The one caused by spawning on tutorial levels?
I downloaded the Steam version, but every time I try to launch the game, I get this error message:
"MountAppFilesystem() failed:
SteamMountAppFilesystem(17740, 4294967295, 0x175bf9e4) failed with error 5: No CS online with App 17741 Ver 0"
What can I do to fix this?
