“After spending nearly 22 years in US Army Special Operations, I knew I wanted to do something completely different that still served a greater purpose. In the military I learned to work with and lead people from diverse backgrounds, skillsets, and life circumstances; finding that they all had experiences and skills to contribute. I found a passion for the environment, and more specifically for #naturebasedsolutions to increase the resilience of our world as we face extreme events that are becoming increasingly common today. Transitioning out of the military, AECOM gave me the opportunity to put my skills and passion to work through the DoD-SkillBridge Program. In the brief time I’ve been with AECOM, I’ve had the opportunity to work on innovative solutions to stormwater infrastructure, PFAS programs with federal agencies, and many others. I’ve always found myself drawn to new challenges and with AECOM I get to take those challenges on with a diverse team of professionals, supported by the amazing veteran community here. With AECOM’s support, my family and I are ready to start the next chapter of life!” Blake Hampton, Military Skillbridge Fellow #AECOMvoices #Skillbridge #Veteransrecruiting AECOM - Government

Today’s People Spotlight features Jamie Rivera, PE, PMP, an associate vice president and project manager from our Water business line in the U.S. East region.    Just three months after joining AECOM, Jamie embarked on a project that would shape the trajectory of her career: supporting a typhoon-stricken community’s recovery in Guam. 20 years later, and she’s made her mark in disaster recovery as she manages our FEMA Public Assistance contracts and facilitates recovery efforts across the U.S. One of her favorite projects to date has been supporting the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) after the 2013 Colorado floods, which impacted Rocky Mountain National Park and several mountainous corridors. Jamie served as the FEMA subject matter expert, managing their debris removal program and guiding CDOT through FEMA’s PA programs and processes.    Read more about her work: https://lnkd.in/eDaF5Ppz   #AECOM #AECOMVoices #PeopleSpotlight #Water #Environment #Sustainability

"This year's HBCU Chicago visit was a vibrant success, reflecting the fellows' commitment to community outreach in congruent with the project they have been working on in the AECOM Detroit office. Activities were centered on community engagement opportunities, including insightful site visits to the local neighborhood, as well as speaking with and understanding what the needs are for the local demographic.” Nife Oseni, Designer AECOM - Buildings + Places #AECOMvoices #HBCUs #BecauseItMatters #SupportHBCUs #DEI #HBCU  Fellows Dana Goodridge, Isaiah Lee, Ken’Niya Dennard and Quaran Ahmad

The Faro Mine was once one of the world’s largest open pit lead-zinc mines. Today, it’s the site of a major remediation program tasked with a critical mission: to deliver environmental remediation solutions that safeguard the environment, maximize local socioeconomic benefits and return the mine site to an acceptable state of use that reflects pre-mine land use wherever possible. Our teams are providing engineering services for this landmark program on behalf of the Government of Canada. And digital tools play a key role in our work. Hear from our leaders on how our PlanEngage digital solution is making one of Canada’s most complex clean ups more seamless, clear and collaborative. #AECOM #Remediation

AECOM as part of the Caledonia Water Alliance has successfully completed a vital project for Scottish Water, reducing flooding risk in Milton, Northeast Glasgow. Our new sustainable urban drainage system (SuDS) on Glentanar Road is now in place.  Why SuDS? Unlike traditional methods, SuDS naturally manage surface water, easing the strain on our sewer network. Buildings and paving block water absorption, leading to runoff and flooding. SuDS lower flow rates, enhance water storage, and reduce pollution.   SuDS Pond: Our eco-friendly pond will store flood water, filter pollutants, and release clean water at a controlled rate to a swale, safely directing it to the Canal.  Tech Innovation: Using a GPS-enabled digger, we precisely excavated the SuDS pond, making the process faster, safer, and more accurate. The system allowed us to create smooth, flat, and sloped surfaces more easily by displaying a 3D model of the design over the ground itself. Community Benefits: This new water feature will help prevent flooding and create greater wildlife biodiversity for the local community.  Check out these time-lapse images of the SuDS Pond construction from October 2022 to October 2023. Together, we're building a resilient and sustainable future for our communities!  #floodprevention #biodiversity #sustainabledevelopment  #SuDS

The transition to clean energy is an industry-wide movement — by 2050, the majority of our energy should come from renewables, synfuels and hydrogen. New York Metro Energy Leader Aneesh Karlekar views this as a huge opportunity to showcase our flexibility and creativity when planning for a sustainable future.    “A holistic approach to the energy transition in New York and beyond is how we’ll better a lot of lives,” Aneesh says. “Our experts look at every detail of existing infrastructure to learn how we can make upgrades in the most cost-effective, energy-efficient way to benefit communities over time.” Learn more about our smart solutions for the energy transition that close the gap between aspiration and implementation: https://lnkd.in/ePsraTaq #RethinkWhatsNext #RethinkingNYNJ

AECOM as part of the Caledonia Water Alliance has started to work on a major investment to enhance the water and sewage infrastructure in Perth, Scotland for Scottish Water. The Bertha Park project is making significant strides to support the city’s growth and mitigate flood risks in the future.     One of the key aspects of this project is the installation of a super sewer with an impressive diameter of 2.2 metres along Tay Street and Shore Road. This upgraded sewer system is designed not only to reduce flood risks in five critical areas but also to accommodate future developments.    Our dedicated site team is hard at work installing approximately 500 metres of this super sewer. This crucial upgrade will play a vital role in making Perth more resilient to climate challenges, specifically minimising sewer flooding during heavy rainfall when our drainage systems face immense pressure from stormwater.    It's exciting to see these proactive steps towards a more sustainable and resilient future for Perth. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to progress with the Bertha Park project. Together, we're building a stronger, safer Perth for generations to come.     Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gM8WEVqJ   #PerthInfrastructure #BerthaParkProject #Sustainability #ClimateResilience
