Case Study: St. Bernard’s High School's Energy Efficiency Initiative
St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg, MA, on Harvard Street, recently underwent a comprehensive energy efficiency project to upgrade their lighting systems and achieve significant cost savings. As a Catholic institution dedicated to educational excellence and sustainability, the school aimed to improve lighting quality while cutting energy consumption.
Facing rising operating costs, St. Bernard’s recognized the importance of managing expenses effectively. Nick Pelletier highlighted the project's seamless execution despite challenges, praising the minimal disruption to daily operations: "We couldn't be more pleased with how well the project worked out."
Partnering with Unitil and AECOM, the school conducted an energy audit that identified opportunities to install new, high-efficiency LED fixtures and retrofit existing ones. Local contractor Force Electric played a crucial role in implementing these upgrades under the Unitil Small Business Energy Efficiency Turnkey Program.
The benefits were immediately evident to the school community. Pelletier noted, "It's amazing how much quality lighting makes a difference," emphasizing the positive impact on both aesthetics and energy savings. The project is expected to reduce annual electricity consumption by over 86,000 kWh and secured a significant rebate of $128,632.
St. Bernard’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency underscores its dedication to providing a high-quality educational environment while reducing its environmental footprint.
