Welcome to the Linux Gamers group. This group is governed by people interested in using the Linux operating system for gaming or game creation. Since quite some time Linux is no more a niche product hostile to advanced and demanding games. With big companies like IDSoftware releasing their games also for Linux the interest and acceptance of this system has grown over time. In comparison to other systems Linux offers a couple of unique features as well as particularities and troubles when it gets down to gaming. It's the goal of this club to promote and support Linux gaming.

oh man.. 2013 is going to be such a good year for linux gaming...
Steam, Unity, probably Source... it's nice to see developers supporting our OS of choice. And who knows what the future will bring.

If anyone is interested there is a Kickstarter for Interstellar Marines happening at the moment. The game has Linux has a supported platform (no stretch goals) and will have a DRM free version.

Nowadays, GNU/Linux is slowly becoming a gaming heaven.: Desura, Humble Bundle, Gameolith and Upcoming Steam.
Steam is actually not heaven... it's devil. ¬.=.¬
I realize there are a lot of drawbacks to Steam, but just like with Linux, I find the benefits to be worth it.
Steam Cons: Games require Steam to be logged into an account with access to the game. Login servers could stop working. Valve can take access to games away from anyone on a whim.
Steam Pros: Automatic updates. Convenient to buy new games. Downloads can be interrupted (normal HTTP downloads can be flaky about that). Many ways to interact with the community (chat, groups, forums).
And just to back up my example of something that isn't perfect:
Linux Cons: Hardware support isn't always there and if it is, it might be incomplete. Windows programs wont work without Wine and even then it's iffy. Programs available for one distro might not be available for another (at least not without some work).
Linux Pros: Fast to install. Package manager makes installation and updating of software quick and simple. Low resource usage. Fancy and potentially useful desktop effects (workspace cube).
It's not that evil, and it might actually help the Linux world tremendously by bringing more players to this OS.
It brings DRM-Lock-Down and stealing games (you don't "own" your "bought" games... they can take it from you at will!). No, Steam "is" evil... very evil. Steam coming to Linux is the worst that can happen.
Yeah steam is evil..but that evil can help linux jump to higher grounds in the moment...we just have to wait and see what happens
Not if it inspires others to go for Linux only with the DRM down their stuff. Linux is about freedom... DRM is about locked down propriatary code. That doesn't mix. Once you have root-kit like DRM in your Linux system forced upon you you might not be so happy about Steam anymore.
Well we always have the option to not use steam ;)
