Phantom Liberty Tips and Tricks
The launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion - and the most recent 2.0 update - offer a wide variety of new features and improvements for players to enjoy. A lot of these changes, such as the reworked perks tree or the brand-new vehicle combat, are worth learning more about so you can take to Dogtown with confidence. Here, we’ve detailed some helpful tips and tricks with those in mind to get you started on this thrilling new journey in Phantom Liberty.
Focus on Character Builds With The Improved Skill Trees
Thanks to the 2.0 update, Cyberpunk 2077 now offers new and improved skill trees. With these, you’re able to better craft a version of V that suits your playstyle - whether that’s leaning into a stealth build or playing as someone who loves to go in loud - so you’ll want to take the time to check them out and see what fits.
As you craft your character, it’s worth knowing that you can sell a perk back at no cost, so you can swap out and change skills to find ones that best suit you. However, when it comes to your Attribute Points, those can only be refunded once. This isn’t something to worry about while first starting out with your character, but as you level up it’s worth keeping in mind.
Find Cyberware to Fit Your Build
Similar to the skill trees, cyberware has also been improved with the 2.0 update. Not only are there new cyberware abilities that can be unlocked via Phantom Liberty’s exclusive new Relic skill tree, but there’s now a limit on how much cyberware you can have installed at one time, which is tied to your level.
Because of this, you’ll want to focus on installing cyberware that suits your V’s build, very much like the skill trees above. Cyberware is also now tied into armor - which was originally attached to the clothing you wore - making your new chrome installments feel like more impactful decisions that can protect you around Night City as well.
Keep An Eye On Your Stamina in Combat
Another change from the 2.0 update is that stamina now plays a much bigger role in combat encounters. Before, it used to drain from general traversal and melee combat, but now, firing off your weapon and dashing/dodging while attacking drains it. Because of this, it’s worth keeping an eye on the stamina bar - located in the upper left corner of your screen - during fights so you can best strategize your next move.
Pick Up Cars with Mounted Weaponry
Vehicle combat is another new feature of the 2.0 update, but more importantly, you can now utilize mounted weaponry on various vehicles around Dogtown. If you’re curious where you can get one of these cars, check out the Autofixer netpage (either at an Autofixer Terminal or the computer in your apartment) and look for the appropriate icon in the top left corner of the car’s image, as shown above. Cars can either come equipped with a machine gun, missile launcher, or both. Grab one, and go wild on the streets of Night City.
Invest in the Carhacker Perk
Alongside the new weapons you can have equipped to vehicles, you can also now hack your way into enemy cars. This can be unlocked through the Carhacker perk in the Intelligence skill tree, which is well worth investing your skill points into. With this perk, you’ll unlock vehicle quickhacks that allow you to hack your way into an enemy car’s controls or even remotely blow them up, if you really want them off your tail. This is especially nice if you’re creating a V centered around hacking, as it’s a great way to add a layer of thrill to your vehicular combat encounters while staying true to your build.
Complete Airdrops For Unique Weapons and Upgrades
Looking to get your hands on some unique weapons and upgrades? Airdrops are the place to look. These are cargo drops meant for Kurt Hansen and his crew of Barghest, but if you’re lucky, you can take what’s inside for yourself. They can be found via a colorful red smoke and will offer you five different encounters as you approach them:
- Retake - an encounter with only a few Barghest enemies
- Shootout - enemies are already on the scene, so you’ll need to fight your way to the cargo
- Ambush - like its name suggests, enemies are waiting for you to turn up
- Grab - it’s your lucky day, you beat enemies to the loot and can take what’s inside
- Custom - These encounters come with dedicated narrative elements and backstory
