I loved how fun and light it was, but then it all got so... Boring. Predictive. Naïve. And poorly thought out. There's almost no word building. No explanations how things work, nothing except colonizing other galaxies and FLYING CARS that would indicate it's based two hundred years into the future. The whole terrorist plot... How can I believe in villains whose motivation is just so illogical? And the love tiangle. God save me from love triangles....more
WOW I'VE FINALLY MANAGED TO FINISH THIS BOOK. So, what exactly went wrong? To be honest, nearly everything.
* At the beginning it all sounded like a 'RWOW I'VE FINALLY MANAGED TO FINISH THIS BOOK. So, what exactly went wrong? To be honest, nearly everything.
* At the beginning it all sounded like a 'Ready Player One' rip off. But I hoped it would be a good 'Ready Player One' rip off. It wasn't. * The plot. There's no plot. There's this hacker and investigation and a viertal reality game and it all sounds fascinating, but it just ends up disappointing you. It's all so naive and simplistic and unsurprising and laughable... * The romance. Could it be more pathetic? I've read a significant number of fanfiction in my life and it sounds just like one. Seriously, we have an aclaimed author reusing the dumbest storylines and tropes that teenagers use to write stories about their idols. * The main character. She doesn't have any personality. Unless you count her RAINBOW HAIR and A SLEEVE OF TATTOOS, the two things about Emika that we are being reminded of almost every page, as personality. What happened here? Adelina from 'The Young Elites' wasn't my favourite, but at least she was written well. In comparision with her, Emika is a cardboard silhouette that someone's trying to convince us is alive. * All of the other characters. I don't even know what should I write about them, because they are almost non existent in terms of having a personality. * The world buiding is a mess. There is some info about the whole Warcross etc., but it's like everything is happening in some sort of a bubble. Not good at all.
I rarely give one star ratings, but this one deserves it, as it's a perfect example of lazy writing from otherwise good writer. In my opinion this book shouldn't have been published at all....more

It'd be a 4 if it wasn't for the way it's written.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the story, but I'm not a fan of interviews in a book of fiction. And this book is full of interviews. I also hate when there's too much description of events instead of showing the actual action, and this book is all description, none of action. It also makes the reader detatched from the characters. I did not care for them at all.
So, the story is great, but the way the author has chosen to write it down seems like he just wasn't sure if he could write a proper book, so instead he left it somewhat half way....more
