But the thing that I couldn't get past was this dreadful use of second person narrator. Why would anyone do this to a reader? It's not my story, it's yours, Jessica. Maybe she did it to distance herself from the fraud. Because not once she acknowledges that she IS a fraud. Apparently she just works for one. And I don't buy it, because after all she was faking all of it.
Anyway, the book was easy to read, sometimes even funny, and I'd like to see it as a TV series, something like Mozart in the Jungle....more
I wish I didn't waste so much time reading this one.
It was just too boring, full of excruciatingly long and repetitive passages about relationships, I wish I didn't waste so much time reading this one.
It was just too boring, full of excruciatingly long and repetitive passages about relationships, full of stereotypes and misogyny. If you want to know how I feel about this book, read this review, it captures my thoughts perfectly. I just wanted to add that Cormoran Strike is a shitty person and portraying him as a good one is something I can't understand.
It got a little interesting about 60%% in, when it started to be more about the mystery and less about main characters' love lives, but the ending felt overcomplicated and disappointing.

I highly recommend the audiobook, which has been recorded with a full cast and feels more like a radio play than an audiobook and adds another dimension to the story....more

There were just too many names, palces and minor characters I couldn't keep up with and as it turns out I didn't even need to keep up with them because they weren't essential to the story. But after some 150 pages it all finally got interesting and I found myself immersed in the story. But it would only benefit from removing about 100 pages here and there.
But why all the main characters had to be so noble. It was very annoying. They had their minor flaws, but in the end they all were so annoyingly noble (I honestly can't find a better word for it)! All but Niclays, who was perhaps the best written character of the whole book. He wasn't my favourite, but at least he felt like a real person....more
'The Gustav Sonata' is as melancholic as it can get, full of sorrow and characters hard to like. Seems like a perfect read for me, but unfortunately i'The Gustav Sonata' is as melancholic as it can get, full of sorrow and characters hard to like. Seems like a perfect read for me, but unfortunately it wasn't.
The book is divided en three parts; the first one, about the sad childhood of Gustav, was great, the second one was okay and the final one was a mistake. I found it hard to believe the motivations of the characters, they all were behaving very unnatural to me. The story didn't have anything that would make it interesting and to be honest I didn't stop reading just because I loved the first part and hoped the ending would be great too. It wasn't. It lacked emotional depth, some events described were just random, not important at all to the story and the characters became the caricatures of themselves. ...more
I cried few times while reading this book and if that's not a good review I don't know what is.
Sometimes I felt like it was a little too random, c4,5.

Sometimes I felt like it was a little too random, certains topics popping here and there, but overall it was an informative, uplifting read that may have changed my relationship with food. We'll see, but I hope for the best. And I'm definitely going to read again some of the chapters....more
