Between the Havak's bolt
lug location when cycling and the AICS center-fed design, it's difficult to think of a more reliably fed bolt-action rifle.
I always place a recoil
lug in the same front-to-rear position as it is returned to the action.
The barrel has two
lugs on top, just ahead of the chamber.
The tubular receiver will look familiar to owners of Remington Model 700 rifles, as will a washer-style recoil
lug sandwiched between the face of the receiver and a shoulder on the shank of the barrel.
When the barrel nut is tightened, it compresses the recoil
lug against the receiver face, and we want 100% con tact between all surfaces so the back of the nut is cleaned up.
Give each
lug nut a jolt with the wrench to get it firmly into place, but wait until the car is on the ground before you really try to tighten the
lug nuts.
Install the bolt through the shackle and the recovery
lug. Make sure the head of the bolt is toward the outboard side of the vehicle.
The wheel is then secured to the hub with the
lug nuts.
Remove one
lug nut from each wheel and install a locking nut in its place.
