UOKiK Summer Camp project with distinction in the Competition Advocacy Contest 2024
  • The UOKIK’s competition law student workshops were distinguished in the International Competition Network (ICN) and the World Bank Group competition.
  • The initiative of the President of UOKiK has gained recognition in the category of raising awareness on competition.
  • The contest jury appreciated the project's modern and engaging formula.

Participants in the UOKiK’s Summer Camp '23 were economics and law students - authors of the best essays on the topic: "What for and how protect competition in the modern economy?". For five days, in a workshop format, they learned about practical examples of competition protection cases. They had an opportunity to meet eighteen experts and three special guests.

The most interesting case studies and learning - behind-the-scenes - about work of the analysts conducting the proceedings - these are only some of the issues. One of larger thematic blocks involved competition law and abuse of dominant position. Also of great interest to the students were the methods applied by UOKiK employees to obtain evidence, that is among others computer forensics using artificial intelligence, mystery shopper, and open-source intelligence.

- The purpose of the Competition Advocacy Contest is to strengthen the role that competition authorities, agencies and NGOs play in promoting competition. This is done by rewarding and presenting the most interesting and effective such initiatives. We are pleased that the UOKiK Summer Camp is considered as an example of how to promote knowledge about the value of market’s competitiveness among students in a modern, attractive way - says the President of UOKiK, Tomasz Chróstny.

- Our workshops are aimed at students in at least the second year of law, economics, or related fields. They allow you to learn about the work of UOKiK experts for the protection of competition. Recruitment for Summer Camp 2024 already started, with a June 16 deadline for applications. Comprehensive information can be found at uokik.gov.pl. We hope that some of the program participants will join our team. They will be able to shape competition protection on the Polish market, including by identifying and removing anti-competitive practices - adds the President of UOKiK, Tomasz Chróstny.

Summer Camp is not the only UOKiK project aimed at students. For years, we have been holding competitions for master's and doctoral theses. Currently are underway: the 16th edition of the competition of the President of UOKiK for the best master's thesis in the area of competition protection and the 14th edition in the area of consumer protection and also the 4th edition of the competition of the President of UOKiK for the best doctoral dissertations in the area of competition protection and consumer protection.
