The competition of the President of UOKiK for the best master's thesis is organized every year. The best doctoral dissertation is selected every 3 years.

- Competition of the President of UOKiK for the best master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation is a chance to win financial prizes and show your scientific achievements. It is also an opportunity to start your career with us. If you have written and defended papers on competition or consumer protection, in Polish or English, send them to us! This is a competition for the best - the papers will be judged by prominent members of our jury. You are cordially invited! - says the President of UOKiK, Tomasz Chróstny.

Subject matter

• competition protection - anti-competitive practices, concentration control, state aid, counteracting unfair use of contractual advantage in trade in agricultural and food products,
• consumer protection - practices violating collective consumer interests, prohibited provisions of standard contracts, unfair market practices.

Members of the competition jury will appreciate works on original topics, with your own thoughts, formulated conclusions and theses with logical argumentation. They will also highly rate papers with a rich selection of literature, especially foreign one.

Formal criteria – check!

Master's theses must be defended with a very good grade, between 15 October 2023 and 15 October 2024. Doctoral dissertations, on the other hand, must be defended between 15 October 2021 and 15 October 2024.

A paper written in Polish or English and defended at a university in Poland may be submitted to the competition of the President of UOKiK.

What can you win

The financial prize pool is PLN 84 thousand.

The authors of the best master's theses in each subject area will receive, in turn: PLN 7,000, PLN 5,000 and PLN 3,000, respetively, as well as the opportunity for a paid graduate internship at UOKiK.

What is more, the Competition Law Association can award an honorable mention of PLN 5,000 in each subject area.

In turn, the prizes for the winners of the competition for the best final dissertation in each subject area are PLN 10,000, PLN 7,000 and PLN 5,000.

The best final theses are published in the UOKiK library – in printed or electronic form.

How and when to apply?

Send your application to dk@uokik.gov.pl, via the electronic mailbox /UOKiK/SkrytkaESP or postal operator.

Include: a completed form, a copy of the paper, a one-page abstract, and a certificate issued by the university authorities confirming the date of defense and the topic of the paper. Attach two doctoral dissertation reviews to the dissertation submission.
