Terry Bogard (テリー・ボード), also known as the Legendary Wolf (伝説の狼 Densetsu no ōkami?), is a guest character from SNK's Fatal Fury, where he is the protagonist, and The King of Fighters. He is also playable in the SNK vs. Capcom series. At Summer Game Fest 2024, it was announced that he would make his Street Fighter debut in the second year/season of DLC for Street Fighter 6 as he was announced alongside Elena, M. Bison and fellow Fatal Fury and KOF castmate and occasional teammate Mai Shiranui.[1]
Street Fighter is his fourth fighting game/series guest character appearance following Fighting EX Layer, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the cancelled game Xuan Dou Zhi Wang.
Biography[]
Appearance[]
Terry is a tall and muscular man with long blond hair styled into a ponytail and blue eyes. He wears a red sleeveless jacket with a white star on the back of it, a white undershirt that is torn at the shoulder, blue jeans and red sneakers modeled after Converse's Chuck Taylor All-Stars. His hat is a baseball cap that is red and white with the words Fatal Fury etched in red on the front. He also has black fingerless gloves, and a black belt with a silver buckle.
Concept[]
Terry is nicknamed The Legendary Wolf (伝説の 狼 Densetsu no Ookami)[2][3] and South Town Hero (サウスタウンヒーロー Sausu Taun Hīrō)[4]. His origin dates back to the original Street Fighter. In an interview, designer Hiroshi "Finish" Matsumoto mentioned the Caucasian man who wore a leather jacket during the game's opening sequence and punched the hole in the wall. Ryu had already been selected as the main character, but developers wanted to include him in the next game if given the opportunity. The mysterious man ended up being the model for Terry, as both Matsumoto and director Takashi "Piston" Nishiyama joined SNK from Capcom after the release of SFI before returning to work for Dimps and work on Street Fighter IV.[5]
Personality[]
Terry is a spirited and friendly young man known widely across South Town for both his fighting prowess and his easygoing personality, rarely showing any ire towards his opponents barring truly malicious individuals such as Geese Howard. In spite of Geese's cruelty and the death of Jeff Bogard, Terry still reaches out to save him from falling to his death, an act that Geese rejects. While he worries for Rock's path following Kain's guidance, Terry trusts him to make his own decisions, and ultimately respects Rock's choice.
Character Relationships[]
Mai[]
Terry's friend through her semi-romantic relationship with his brother Andy Bogard. The two are amicable, and often encounter each other in various tournaments. either as allies or opponents. The most conflict the two appear to show is whenever Andy is involved, with Mai often pestering Terry about his brother's whereabouts or to stop teaming up.
Story[]
Fatal Fury Series[]
Fatal Fury: King of Fighters[]
Terry and his brother Andy were adopted by Jeff Bogard and raised in the lawless streets of South Town. At the age of ten, Terry witnessed his father's death at the hands of Jeff's former rival Geese Howard, who had been passed over as the successor of the Hakkyokuseiken martial art and spent the following years amassing power in South Town as the CEO of Howard Connection. The two brothers trained for a decade, with Andy moving to Japan to learn Shiranui-ryuu Ninjitsu while Terry remained in his hometown, combining Hakkyokuseiken with his own combination of street brawling. Terry and Andy then entered Geese's King of Fighters tournament alongside their friend Joe Higashi, fighting through opponents before eventually throwing Geese off of the side of his own building to his presumed death.
Fatal Fury 2[]
Some time later, Wolfgang Krauser von Stroheim challenged Terry in order to witness the man capable of defeating Geese. Terry entered a second King of Fighters tournament and faced off against Krauser, leaving victorious.
Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory[]
Unbeknownst to all, Geese, however, survived his fall, and plotted to steal the legendary Jin scrolls, said to grant immortality. Terry defeated Geese, the assassin Ryuji Yamazaki and the Jin brothers possessed by the malevolent spirits of their ancestors, but could not stop Geese from obtaining the scrolls. He later encountered a boy named Rock and took him under his wing.
Real Bout Fatal Fury[]
A year later, Geese held another King of Fighters tournament, and much like before, Terry fought his way to the top of Geese Tower in a final confrontation. After knocking Geese off the side once again, Terry reached out to his adversary to save him, but was instead rejected as Geese plummeted to the ground, laughing all the while. Terry, learning that Rock was Geese's son and seeing the end result of his path of revenge, decided to raise him properly as a way to end their feud peacefully.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves[]
Ten years after Geese's death, Terry and Rock received an invitation for a new King of Fighters tournament, with a message telling Rock to join in order to learn about his deceased mother Marie. Though the two fought their way through Second Southtown and defeated host Kain R. Heinlein, Rock discovers that Kain is in fact his uncle, and that his mother is supposedly still alive. Terry, trusting Rock to follow his own path, let him go discover the truth about his past, and the two went their separate ways.
The Fatal Fury story is set to continue in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Set to release in 2025, it is the first Fatal Fury title since Garou in 1999.
The King of Fighters Series[]
Terry is a mainstay of the King of Fighters series as one of the co-founders Team Fatal Fury, often teaming with Andy and Joe Higashi. They competed for Italy in the original King of Fighters title, The King of Fighters '94. Terry has led the team in every King of Fighters title, and Andy and Joe have each been teammates of his in every title except one.
Terry has the distinction of being one of only six characters to appear in every King of Fighters title. The other five are Clark Still and Ralf Jones (both from Ikari Warriors), Ryo Sakazaki (Art of Fighting), Athena Asamiya (Psycho Soldier) and KOF original Kyo Kusanagi. All six are notable for being protagonists of their home series.
Terry's other teammates over the years on this team besides Mai include:
- Mary "Blue Mary" Ryan (Fatal Fury 3)
- Tizoc (The Griffon Mask) (Garou: Mark of the Wolves)
- Kim Kaphwan (Fatal Fury 2)
- Duck King (Fatal Fury: King of Fighters)

Trivia[]
- In Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Terry has a special introduction against Ken, where Ken tosses Terry his hat and catches it.
- Ironically, in earlier hacked PC versions of Street Fighter II, Terry was modded into the game, along with Andy. His appearance in a Street Fighter game can be considered a full circle, with his official appearance.
- Street Fighter 6 is the second time time where both Terry and Mai are included in a same DLC pack within a same game they are in, as they both previously appeared in Fall Guys.
- Terry appears as a gender-swapped female in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy alongside other popular SNK female fighting game characters including Mai, Yuri Sakazaki (Art of Fighting), Athena Asamiya (Psycho Soldier) and Nakoruru (Samurai Shodown). He is also the first known gender-swapped fighter in this game, followed by Skullomania (added in exchange for original male Terry's inclusion in Fighting EX Layer), and lastly and properly, Iori Yagami's disguised identity Miss X (original crossdressing form from SNK Gals Fighters serves as an alternate appearance).
- It is speculated that Terry and Mai arrive in Street Fighter 6 from the storyline of The King of Fighters XV instead of from the pre-Wolves sub-series storyline of Fatal Fury shared universe timeline. Cited indicators are Mai reprising her outfit from Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, being or resembling that of a New Age Saga of the main King of Fighters series, and Terry reprising his iconic outfit dating back to Fatal Fury 2.
- Terry's announcement along with Mai for Street Fighter 6 Season 2 makes them the first characters not from a Capcom IP appear in a Street Fighter mainline game.
- Though Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves marks the first time Terry receives an English voice actor in the Fatal Fury series, Michael Allen Schneider technically debuts in the role first in Street Fighter 6.
- Rival Schools character Roy Bromwell bears a striking resemblance to Terry Bogard, both in his physical appearance and his moveset, most prominently with Dynamite Straight and Touchdown Wave resembling Burn Knuckle and Power Wave.
- In Terry's teaser trailer/World Tour introduction at the Pao Pao Cafe, other NPCs can be seen dressed as Fatal Fury characters who also appear in The King of Fighters such as Andy, Joe, Blue Mary and Billy Kane.
