Zaritskii, Aleksei Aleksandrovich
Born Mar. 9 (22), 1911, in the settlement of Khotimsk, in present-day Mogilev Oblast. Soviet Byelorussian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1946.
Zaritskii’s first collection, Epic Fragments, came out in 1932. He took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45. Zaritskii’s lyric poetry is devoted to the heroism and constructive labor of the Soviet people. His best work is the narrative poem Tale of the Gold Mine (1954; Russian translation, 1955). He has translated Russian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Czech, Polish, and German poets into Byelorussian. Zaritskii was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War Second Class and various medals.
