Dear Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to report an issue I encountered while testing WordPress RC2 with various themes. Specifically, I noticed that clicking on certain customizer redirect sections does not work as expected.

Here are the details of my findings:

To ensure this issue is not isolated, I also tested other popular themes such as Kadence, Storefront, and GeneratePress. Unfortunately, all these themes, including the WordPress default theme Twenty Twenty-One, exhibit the same issue.

I suspect that the problem might be related to changes in the autofocus URL parameter within the Customizer API in WordPress RC2.

Could you please investigate this matter and either fix the issue or identify the causing PR? Your prompt attention to this would be greatly appreciated.

The autofocus parameter bug has ticket #61561, so this might be a duplicate.

#61561 is now in 6.6.1, given the last 6.6 RC is happening in a few minutes. Moving this ticket to 6.6.1 for investigation, just in case it's not the same issue as #61561.

Reviewed during today's bug scrub. The investigation hasn't happened yet, nor has a determination of if this is a duplicate of #61561.

As tentatively a 6.6.1 RC is earmarked for late tomorrow (July 18th), will punt this ticket to 6.6.2.

It's hard to see from the videos, but in one I can indeed see that the autofocus query parameter is being used. So it does seem that it is a duplicate of #61561.

@yssambare If you could test the fix in the PR that would be helpful: ​https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/pull/6974#issuecomment-2210537108
