Dragon Age Origins Crash on new game - EA App

[ Edited ]
★ Novice

I have suddenly developed the issue where I can no longer begin a new game or a new dlc campaign game without the game crashing on the loading screen immediately after trying. I am able to load my current save with no issues, just cannot start anything new. I am playing the ultimate edition on the EA App. I have tried the 4gb patch which fixed this issue for me previously, but now is not working. I have tried updating drivers, repairing game, reinstalling game and app, clearing pc cache, limiting CPU to just 0 or 1, removing the 2 mods I did have installed and readding them, changing graphic settings and sound settings.

None of these have worked, at one point with no change to any settings it made it slightly further, but then crashed with a memory error that the patch has not fixed when I tried to load awakening, but cannot get that far again.

Hi @jamesthatc438, To confirm loading an existing save doesn't cause this to happen?

@EA_Illium  No, I have one save which I can load just fine, and could load both my Leliana's song save and my Darkspawn Chronicles save just fine, but I deleted them in case they had somehow corrupted the game as they were the last things I had done. I can still start a new Leliana's song save and Darkspawn Chronicles save with no issues, but cant start a new base game, awakening, golems, or witch hunt game without the game switching off as soon as the loading wheel appears.

  • Press the Windows key and "X" at the same time.
  • Choose "command prompt (Administrator)" or "Power shell (Administrator)"
  • At the prompt, copy and paste "chkdsk x: /f /r" (Without the quotes, change x to the drive letter of the drive DAi is installed on.) > ENTER.
  • Choose "Y" at the dialogue > Restart the machine if necessary.
  • Here is a guide on how to find the Chkdsk log after you are back in Windows. Load it up here please.
  • Repair the game again > Test.

That is very strange, there should be a log.

1. Hit Windows key and X.
2. Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” or "Windows Terminal (Administrator)", whichever option is offered.
3. Inside PowerShell, CMD or Terminal enter “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth” without quotes. > ENTER.
4. If errors are found, notify us. If no errors were found reaped steps 1 & 2.
5. Inside PowerShell, CMD or Terminal enter “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes. > ENTER.
6. The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here.
7. After it reaches 100% reaped steps 1 & 2
8. Inside PowerShell, CMD or Terminal enter “sfc /scannow” without quotes > ENTER.
10. Post the message you receive at the end of the processes here.

Re: Dragon Age Origins Crash on new game - EA App

@jamesthatc438

Repair the game again and test. (The mods are still uninstalled?)

If that don't helps preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.

In clean boot:
- Make sure the "EABackgroundService" remains enabled under point 3 in the guide.
- Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
- Make sure any CORSAIR/Razor/Asus software is disable or deinstalled and that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
- Make sure only your Mouse and keyboard are connected to the PC
