This is "The Messenger / Связной" mod, latest version 2.0, hand translated by me. Please read the "Readme" after downloading for more information.
Installation:
Copy and paste the contents of the "Mod" folder to the Call of Pripyat folder.
The mod works with the Steam version.
Tested on both retail and Steam version of CoP.
About:
"The Messenger" is the prologue of the "Bad Company" mod. It tells the story of the stalker called Mason, and how he made a lot of enemies, friends and got into various troubles. The main character is a mercenary, his task is to infiltrate a group of diggers and find out about their plans. At first glance, the task seems simple but...

Is there any chance of downloading the actual mod from ModDB, or Google, or some source other than Yandex? The problem I have is that the message in Yandex states Downloads exceeded, must use personal Yandex disc to download.
When I try to create an account much personal info is demanded and then the process fails as I try to enter a phone number, so cannot create an account from my location in U.S.

A tip from me.
You can obtain a Bear Detector from one of the Diggers in Digger camp.
I overlooked it because I didn't care about the random, non-unique looking npcs.
This mod looks very vanilla. This is the first one I'm going to download. Thank you for the translation and the tips!

I'm sure I will! The mod looks great in the screenshots. It seems like it's only using vanilla assets, and I like them very much!
I've completed a run and liked the mod overall (even with its flaws), and if anyone would like to check it out, I've created a small addon for the mod: Moddb.com.
The initial difficulty was great and challenging, I had to carefully think about how to use the limited resources. The plot and some side quests were interesting too!
My only remark is that I'd have liked to see the mod use 100% vanilla models, as I find it a little strange how the existing characters in COP are reused here (except one, who undoubtedly fits in the atmosphere and the plot).
When I do the second task for Trapper, the one where we hunt dogs, I get no new task, task updated or task completed info. After we kill them, he says "Thanks, here's some money", but there's no task to update and he doesn't actually give me anything.
The quest failed to trigger to the next state while teleporting you to the location. Simply reload a save and it'll work as intended.
It could be that I said "I'm not ready yet" when he first asked me, and went to to smthng and then started the quest. Maybe you have to agree as soon as he asks, or else the quest fails to trigger, that's the only thing that comes to mind.
Nah, thought that immediately and reloaded several times ofc, but it doesn't work. Although I will have to come back to an earlier save or start over, as it seems there's some softlock if you don't take the bear detector pack. (You mentioned it somewhere here)
