However, we are happy to announce the launch of a devblog for our new game, BEACON, a sci-fi action roguelike coming to PC. We know this might not be your cup of tea as it is very different from Black Snow, but give us a chance to impress you. yes, applying the gameinfo.txt fix and using the console command "mat_dxlevel 85" before starting a new game, everything works just fine, with one exception; all the ice textures look strange. With mat_dxlevel 95 (default) the ice textures all look good, only the game will crash shortly afterward. [sigh]
oh well, since the ice textures are the only problem, I would say that this is a very clever mod story. Still can not get past the navigation map ending the game with the character's death,... seems I am missing something?

Doubt it, considering there hasn't been a word from the developers in nearly a year. A bugfix is what we all need most though, especially now.
For anyone having problems with starting the game, use mfpwnsall's link to get the fixed Gameinfo.txt. This should let you start the game and play it up to the intro movie, following which it usually crashes.
To fix this, before starting the game open up the console and type in "mat_dxlevel 85"; though this lowers the graphics, so far its seems to be the only way to make the mod playable. (Thanks to: Steamcommunity.com)
Boxed white screen, with the same error message as everyone else. Fixes to other games 'gaminfo.txt' file had success but not with this. Tried all the available fixes but now just get just past the intro, instant CTD.
I used mfpwnsall's link and the game launched, but after the intro it crashes.
I tried to launch the game in windowed mode and load the first map from the console - nothing worked!
That's because once you get to the main menu, you must go into the console and type in mat_dxlevel 85 and it'll change the DirectX level to the playable one. This will fix it.
For anyone dealing with issues playing the mod, e.g. "Can't find file materials/console/background01_widescreen.vtf", here's some luck. I found this, which fixed my problem, so hopefully it'll fix yours.
