This game, released in 2002, focused on nothing more, nothing less but on-line fun factor. This is a 3D multiplayer shooter, showing similarities to such hits as Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament. The main part of the game are fights with other people through the Internet, but a single-player ladder option is also possible.
It's one of those games that looked great when were announced, but after the release were not really anything more than just medium productions, like thousands of others shooters. Still, it's basic shoot-em up gameplay can attract people. It's not a bad piece of software for multiplayer battle fans.
Gore: Ultimate Soldier features AI opponents the player can fight against. This isn't documented anywhere in the game's documentation, nor via it's UI. I had to investigate old archives of the developer's forum to figure out how to do this.
Thankfully it's very simple to do so I will teach all of you here how to do it.
The easiest way to do this is to start a dedicated server. Upon installing Gore: Ultimate Soldier there's a shortcut in the start menu for it.
After you start a dedicated server you should see this.
This is all normal of course. Now type the command
addbot "scout"
You'll see the server state shift to "Server playing". This is because a player has now entered the server.
Now start the game up and go to the server browser.
If you don't see a server there try hitting refresh on the "LAN" button in the bottom right hand corner.
Upon joining the server you should see your bot running around, and it'll start shooting at you too. You can now play with bots.
If you wish to remove a bot simply type in the following command
delbot "scout"
This will then remove the bot.
Question: Is it possible to play with more classes than just the scout.
Yes. You just need to type the class's name in. For example, Krogen.
Question: Does it work in CTF
Not so much. Probably the reason why this feature wasn't advertised. I've found the gamemode it works the best in is Deathmatch.
Do bots have difficulty settings?
Actually yes. Here's a post from Sardo from the 4D Rulers forum.
in the single player game you can choose the level of difficulty, this goes for the bots as well... there are 4 levels of difficulty (0,1,2 or 3)... at the lowest level the bots wont aim that good, and they wont dodge your bullets very well... at the highest level their aim is perfect, which makes it very hard to kill em... they will also use different tactics like crouching... any other differences i havent notice yet...
to set the level of difficulty, type in console: difficulty 'level'... you have to do this before you start the map/server... or do a restart... for example: difficulty 1
This is a weapon skin that replaces the gas cloud with just the letter Z repeating.
This is a skinpack that includes reskins of the shotguns and the pistol. Presumably to a woodgrain texture.
Hey, I remember Gore! I remember trying it for the first time when a gaming magazine in my country gave it for free.
