Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac." CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with
Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo.
Merry Christmas all!
Here's a few screenshots of 2Bridges, a 64 player urban CS:GO map I've been working on.
It's almost finished now, I'm just putting the final touches on, gameplay, props, lighting, polish. It runs on a gtx-pro, It''s been designed to run fast, so the viz-portals are cut up nice and neat. I've even included a screenshot from hammer of the basic map block-out.
Enjoy!

Cross-platform play?
So we'll see the end to "controller vs mouse+keyboard" flamewar? :3
The mouse keyboard players will win. Since most of the players aim like they have aimhacks or something and you die within a few seconds of seeing them o_0
Uhh..Xbox360 Doesn't have Crossplatform gameplay. So we only play with other 360 players.
not unless console kiddies get aim-assist. they've already done studies, btw...comparisons for other prospective cross platform games where the console players are typically demolished. it'll be very interesting to see how they tackle this issue, if they intend to.
Woah woah WAIT! This says it comes on the 29th? is that true, because im spending a ton of money on the PS-Vita! :/
spending? you mean wasting!
wasting, you mean spending
you're probably a Nintendo fan
and you should also be advised to stay on topic
the game looks great, although i do agree the mapping could be better, what ground is actually flat?
Sooo...*cough* aiming/springing? *cough*
Message to valve... LEARN HOW TO DEVELOP A NEW ENGINE!
Why are people stuck on this idea that a new engine will be better?
For one, it takes more than a few days to make an engine. There's tons of entities to be created, logic to be thought out, networking, rendering, audio, animation, physics, and far more things to make and bug test. A new engine would mean far more bugs and a extremely long wait.
Valve will continue to update the Source engine. This is best for you, me, Valve and everyone else. If they feel like making Source look jaw-dropping, they will. But they don't spend a lot of time on graphical features, that's Valve. They do what is necessary for them to feel as if there goals for a game have been reached. Not anything more.
Trust me, I would love for them to bring Source graphics up to BF3 or UDK levels. But it ain't going to happen until Valve decides it's what is best. Though I would just like a better SDK.

Its sort of sad when people like you seriously think, that valve´s games use source with it´s full strength.
They clearly CAN develop a new engine but they want. But they don't want. They want most players to be able to play Counter-Strike. That's the point of sticking with the Source engine.
Can't Wait!!!
