Some areas have 1Gb fiber. Wish they had faster options.
If you are stuck in a DSL area. Look for other options.

I had Windstream fiber at my previous address. And it was fantastic. I never had any connection issues or outages.

However after moving 5 blocks across town. I was stuck with slow unreliable DSL. My connection would drop out daily. I would have to power cycle my modem every day sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. And on top of that it was unusable for many tasks.

Edited do to my most recent experience with them.

1 gig

What are you doing that you want faster speed? You probably don't even notice the difference between 500/500 and 1GiB.

Re: 1 gig

I run a bunch of servers for CCTV footage and Nas servers. The added cost of electric to run the servers is getting pricy. If i could have a higher upload i could move a lot of my storage to the cloud. And save on electric. So that is why i wish they offered faster plans here. I am stuck in a town that doesn't allow you to shop around for electric. So my electric bill is around $500-$800 a month.

A lot people will say to just move someplace else. But thats not an easy solution for everyone. And yes my use case is a bit different than the average user.

Re: 1 gig

Do you have a business plan? That is what it sounds like you need.

Why are you running all of those servers and cameras? Are they all wired? Trying to do it all via wireless will be the problem.

You probably don't need faster service, you probably need better hardware. Is your service giving you the same upload and download? If not, that's your issue - not the speed.

Re: 1 gig

I have symmetrical 1Gb. And my network is all 10Gbe. Other than a few 2.5Gb Wifi 6E AP's. It's not the equipment it's the use case. I want to be able to upload my camera footage. Every 2 hours. Which slows down the upload for other tasks on the network.

Ill be upgrading to 2Gb. Whenever Windstream decides to bring it to my town. The only other option in town in comcast 6Gb. But that is $299 a month. And that probably isn't symmetrical. And comcast probably has a data cap.

I might not need faster. But i will gladly pay for it. Just so i don't have these slow downs every so often. Also when i want to download something i want it now. I don't want to wait 5mins to download from my cloud.
