Surprising Seeds are items exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in the From Beyond updates. They can be found in Sunken Chests with a 10% chance. The chance is increasing gradually until day 150 at which point there is a 60% chance for Surprising Seeds to drop.

A Surprising Seed can be planted into the ground, but needs certain conditions depending whether it is a Gloomthorn seed or a Sproutrock seed. Gloomthorns will grow in Winter and on Marsh Turf, Sproutrocks in Summer and on Rocky Turf:

Examining a Surprising Seed will give out a character quote granting the information if the season or turf is wrong, allowing the player to identify the seed:

When a Surprising Seed meets the required conditions, it will grow in 3 - 7 days into a sapling. It can also be dug and replanted, or the turf can be changed with a Pitchfork.
