![Sega's Neptune Is Getting Revived In FPGA Form 1](https://cdn.statically.io/img/images.timeextension.com/08bae88325fb2/segas-neptune-is-getting-revived-in-fpga-form-1.900x.jpg)
Once upon a time, Sega had plans to release an all-in-one Genesis / Mega Drive and 32X home console called Neptune.
Those plans were scrapped when the 32X flopped and it became clear that Sega needed to focus on Saturn, but not before the company had shown off a prototype. That same design is now being used by Brazilian firm GamesCare, which has announced the GF1 Neptune, a FPGA-based clone which will run Mega Drive and 32X cartridges.
The GF1 will also feature wireless capabilities and its own online store, where new and exclusive titles will be available for purchase. It will also feature the ability to link up with the Sega CD. It will output in 1080p via HDMI.
A full reveal is scheduled for June 30th, alongside a new game from developer Versão Ltda.

@Damo Neptune gained more attention from EGM's annual April Fools joke where they plugged a website selling a supposed warehouse find of the console. I read when you attempted to checkout, the website would tell you you had been fooled.
They ran it in the same magazine with a couple other things that would've been much more believable pranks but were true: the Game Boy-based sewing machine sold in Japan, and the announcement Twelve Tales had turned into Conker's Bad Fur Day.
ah man, that silver case is slick looking, and the online store is a great idea. this is gonna be tempting for sure
Pretty cool except for 1080p output. I'd want composite or RGB Component.
Am I the only one who read the company's name as Game Scare ?
Just me then ?
Okay.
@gojiguy Definitely, one of these in black with RGB out would be perfection.
@gojiguy Apparently, it will have both hdmi and composite
I probably play my Megasis the most out of all my retro consoles. This would be a nice addition.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
Really like the look of this project.
This one looks interesting. I've long hoped Analogue would produce an all in one Mega Drive, Mega CD & 32X and this looks the closest to that we've come so far.
Not sure why anyone wants composite video out though. That was crap even back in the day. RGB or component I get.
Interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
@WaveBoy Each to their own. I can't stand fuzzyvision and used RGB scart cables with my Sega consoles even back then. I get not liking the look of razor sharp pixels on an HD TV, but composite never looked good and RF was even worse. For me I love nice blocky pixel art and can't stand softening filters. I do get that choice is king though, so options that suit everybody are the way to go.
This could be a Mega Sg killer in the making, especially as Analogue no longer manufactures them. Definitely a machine to keep an eye on.
Yuuuuuupppp. If this thing isn’t vaporware, i will have one. Trying to get a 32X to sync properly with a modern display is no easy task. This should take care of that.
How come no one has made an FPGA Sega/Mega CD? As in, one that can either take actual disks or ISOs.
@NatiaAdamo
From my knowledge the closest we have is the Mega SD from Terraonion.
I always hoped Analogue would bring one out to use the extension on their own Mega SG consoles, especially after I saw they were producing the PC Engine with CD drive.
Great! Better than harvesting original Consoles!
