![It's Insane How Much 'Zelda' Is Playable On Switch, And That's Why It's Nintendo's Best Console 1](https://cdn.statically.io/img/images.timeextension.com/2a82f55a461f6/its-insane-how-much-zelda-is-playable-on-switch-and-thats-why-its-nintendos-best-console-1.900x.jpg)
Unless you've been living under a rock, you will no doubt have noticed that Nintendo announced a new Zelda game the other day.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom arrives on Switch later this year and uses the same art style as 2019's excellent Link's Awakening remake. In addition to this news, Nintendo also revealed that it is adding the Game Boy Advance title Zelda: Link to the Past & Four Swords to Nintendo Switch Online.
With these games added to the Switch's library, it makes the console comfortably the best place to play Zelda in 2024.
As noted by @forestminish on Twitter, there are a staggering 18 different Zelda titles available on the system (well, there will be once Echoes of Wisdom arrives in September).
That's practically all of the mainline games, with the exception of Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and A Link Between Worlds (we won't mention spin-offs such as Tri Force Heroes, Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, Zelda's Adventure and Link's Crossbow Training).
This comfortably makes the Switch home to some of the greatest video games of all time – and perhaps ensures its status as Nintendo's best console, full stop. What do you think? Let us know with a comment below.

I’ve only had a Switch for a year, but I think it has to be their best console, regardless of this Zelda stat. Although A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are the best Zelda games, and that doesn’t look like it will ever change, at least they’re both playable on Switch.
Without question, I think the Switch is the best console ever made. Save for high-end graphics and joycon drift, this console can do basically everything. The Switch's game library is unmatched.
@GravyThief You are wrong - BOTW is the best Zelda game
I don't count subscription requirements for access. For Switch to become the best console it needs the Gamecube Zelda games on disc. Gamecube continues to be the best Nintendo system for Zelda games because you could actually own them all... not lose them all once they flip the off switch.
CONTENT WARNING: UNPOPULAR OPINION
after decades of innovation, ambitious controller design, handheld-console cross play, etc etc, I find it a bit disheartening that Nintendo's "best console" is the PSP-like underpowered one with uninspired (and tbh, out of the box, terrible) controls.
I love my Switch and it's my no-second-guessing clear choice for this generation, but articles like this reinforce my opinion that Nintendo's real "competition" is emulation of its own legacy, not besting the standards it set for itself during its golden age.
@GameGear1991 I logged in just for this comment. With the GameBoy Player attached, the GameCube allowed you to play every Zelda game up to and including Twilight Princess. You can own 5 Zelda titles on Switch. Once online access ends (inevitably it will) that’s your lot. Even with a modded Wii you can ‘own’ 7 of them.
@GameGear1991
excellent comment, great point
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ would reply again
@Gamecuber I loved Gamecube for the Zelda games and was a moron for selling my setup. I had the system with GBA player with the following:
Zelda Collectors Disc
OoT Master Quest disc
Wind Waker
Four Swords
Twilight Princess
Link to the Past (GBA)
Just needed the GB and GBC games to complete the collection.
With Gamecube you're only missing BotW and TotK for mainline games. I wouldn't count Skyward Sword as missing anything with the forced motion controls.
@GameGear1991 luckily I still have my setup. I never owned 4 Swords, gave away my original copy of Link’s Awakening once I got the DX version and Twilight Princess has gone missing (only game I have ever misplaced and it’s still remains a mystery how that actually happened) but have everything else except Oracle of Seasons. The Cube is a Zelda beast!
@GameGear1991 I don't own a Switch. Are you saying it's not digital purchases, and when your sub expires the games don't run?
@Sketcz
That is exactly what he is saying.
Al the games in the Switch Online service are purely rentals.
The moment your sub runs out you lose access to them
The only games you can actually buy and own on the NX are the bottom row in that picture.
Thats still a lot of Zelda but to own the entire series you need a Gamecube with GBA player as well.
@Sketcz Correct. Like PS Plus, if your sub runs out, they won't be available to you. As they're digital, the purchased license can be revoked at any time. If you had them on disc or cartridge, Nintendo wouldn't be able to steal them away from you.
You can't own half of them, that's not that good tbh.
And why the hell aren't TP and WW HD on Switch yet?! The WiiU got both on discs fgs!!
While the Switch is a great system, the 3DS is still the best video game system ever. Mic drop.
Uhhhhh. No? The Wii U is the system with the most zeldas. It's only missing like three or four. Switch is missing like seven
@GameGear1991
"I loved Gamecube for the Zelda games and was a moron for selling my setup."
(suggestion: never insult thy self (or any other (separate) self))
@Przemyslaw Nope, you are wrong A Link to the Past is the best Zelda game.
I think you should judge a console based on its ORIGINAL game library (otherwise, the "Switch 2" will automatically be "better" than "Switch 1", and "Switch 3" will be better than "2", etc.)
You shouldn't give Switch points for A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
But having Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is compelling on its own.
@KitsuneNight @GameGear1991
Thanks. Hard pass. The hardest pass. If this pass were any harder I'd black out due to lack of blood to my brain.
I have never touched PS Plus and I wouldn't even if they gave it to me free the first 6 months.
All of it is a scam and I am still surprised anyone buys into it or even likes it.
Absolutely detest that kind of nonsense.
@Sketcz
It's a glorified rental.
If you go in like that is passable, just don't expect to own anything.
I got gamepass on my Xone X, i've played quite a few games i never would have bought before.
But I am under no illusions than that they are anything other then a rental.
At least they are upfront about it.
But if this is the future of gaming then i'll pass and fully retreat in to retro.
And yet, still no Twilight Princess.
@Tasuki I don`t agree - BOTW is B E S T E R than LTTP
