Why Camilla will definitely be our next Queen - whether she likes it or not; The law means that Camilla Parker-Bowles could ascend to the throne as our next Queen.

WhileCamilla Parker-Bowlesis now a much-loved royal, she has long attracted controversy that hasrocked the monarchy.

When the Queen passes away, Charles will ascend to the throne - and there has been much debate and speculation about what this will mean for Camilla.

She has long wanted to take on the role of Princess Consort, but it turns out there's a law that means she will actually become Queen - whether she wants to or not.

Speaking to theDaily Star, Professor Pavlos Eleftheriadis said: "Camilla will be a 'Queen' in the limited legal sense of being the wife of the sovereign".

Because the pair were married by the Privy Council in March 2005, under the Royal Marriages Act 1772 it cannot be disputed that she is the wife of a future sovereign.

This will make her Queen Consort - despite the fact that Clarence House issued a statement when the Duchess and Charles married that she "intended" to use the title "HRH The Princess Consort".

He added that although she may choose to be known as Princess Consort, it "is a matter for the future King (Prince Charles)" to decide but that she will still be Queen Consort on paper.

The law professor explained that although she cannot be forced to use the name Queen Consort, her role as the wife of a sovereign is essentially that of Queen - however, the pair will not be joint heads of state.

Legally, he believes she will be Queen for the purposes of the Treason Act 1351 and may be required to take the Coronation Oath, under the Coronation Act 1688.

Along with two others, she will also be able to certify the King's incapacity to hold office - should she need to.

The professor concluded: "So in these legal and symbolic senses, Camilla will be 'Queen', whether she wants it or not. But this does not entail that she will have a Royal title, which is a separate question."

Princess Charlottemay also get a very fancy title indeed- but she'll have to wait for it. When Will inevitably takes the crown, littleCharlottemay go by the name Princess Royal.

Ultimately it's up to Prince William if she has it or not, but it comes with a lot of strict rules - especially when it comes to dating.

This is because under ancient British tradition anyone who sleeps with the Princess Royal before getting married to her is guilty of high treason - which is punishable by execution.
